Amanita Amerimuscaria/Pantherina ID request

Last monday, my buddy and I went out hunting in Colorado for some Amanita Muscaria, and stumbled on a lot of what we are thinking is Amanita Amerimuscaria and some that are possibly panthers.

We had lots of rainstorms over the past few weeks that have stimulated mushroom growth, though the day before the hunt we had a massive heat wave that baked every last mushroom in the area. We found lots and lots of cracker dry mushrooms on the forest floor, and the ones we found that we believe to be Amerimuscaria already smelled of baked chicken. Some of the caps turned to a dark color from what we are thinking was a result of exposure to the heat and sun.

They all had the skirt on them at some point, though they fell off of most of the stipes while we were traveling with them. They were all growing near conifers, all have the bulbous base and fuzzy concentric rings.

We are hoping some of you could shed some light on anything the sun-baking may have done negatively or positively to the mushrooms. We think that if anything, the ibotenic acid may have been converted to some degree in nature, but if anything may have happened to them where we should not eat them, we'd really like to know before going to wonderland.

Habitat: Around conifers, deciduous trees

Gills: White, free, slightly yellowish on some

Stem: White, pasty, bulbous base, concentric rings

Cap: Brown/Black to Orange/Red

Spore print: not taken, will do if necessary with the dried shrooms

Bruising: no observed bruising

Location: Colorado, west base of Pike's Peak in the Rockies

I apologize for any unclear pictures, my camera is broken and had to make due with my iPhone.

Here are the ones we think are Amanita Amerimuscaria, and who appear to not have suffered sun damage though they were still sun baked and are cracker dry.




Here are the caps of the ones we believe could possibly be panthers, though they appear to just be sun damaged




This one appears to be a sun damaged amerimuscaria, and leads us to believe the possible panthers are simply sun damaged amerimuscarias

These are the undersides of two of the black/brownish ones, the skirts fell off but the outer lips of the cap are the same orange/reddish of the others.

So, these are are at least Amerimuscarias? This would be the first find I've had of them and would like to know if anyone else thinks these are amerimuscarias too

thats what they look like to me. they have the veil, and the rings at the base. but be careful, amanitas can be dangerous as all hell.

Yeah, it looks like A. amerimuscaria...at least some of them. I can't tell if they're all amerimuscaria because your pics aren't organiazed and clear enough. The material looks a bit dry too.
