hmmm sleep paralysis i ;ve def had this but when i was waking up...i was awake but still in the dream world and could not move...it's happened only a couple of times but it was very terrifying.

This has been mentioned in previous threads about sleep paralysis, but the term Old Hag and another one I can't recall stem from episodes of sleep paralysis.

Anyone feel free to help out with the other terms.  I think Wiccan Seeker mentioned a couple if I'm not mistaken.

Try not to panic, the first time i did realize this was by mistake.  I thought the tv was on and did not realize i was in paralysis.  I listened to it for a while and nothing i heard made sense.  When i tried to tell my GF to turn her crazy show off, i then realized where i was OH NO~! but this time i was not that afraid for i had been there for a few mins.  I did my normal to come out of it, i prayed to God(a universal God, not a bubmper sticker Jesse). When i came out of it, the tv was off and she was upstairs.  I laughed for the first time at it.

Last night i had some vivid auditory hallucinations as i was trying to sleep on aderall and way to much caffeine.
I forget what i heard, but it was a strange not so nice sounding voice, that was speaking like i was hearing something in the room talking.

it only happens to me if I take sleeping pills and force myself to stay awake

I become paralysed and cant move my body and I start having insane visuals.

1 time I saw a dog walk through my door (it was closed) and it jumped onto my bed and started eating my left leg.  I saw blood all over my bed and everything I was so scared and couldnt move at all to escape it lol.  I had to just remind myself over and over that it was all in my head.

I've never had sleep paralysis but I do have hypnagogic hallucinations occasionally. mostly just patterns, but I have gotten pretty startled from the odd auditory one, like teeth chattering or faint gurgling sounds, pretty creepy..

I'm glad you said that, because I feel the same way sometimes.

The way I think about it is that if it starts happening during the day, THEN you have something to worry about.


It went like this for me:
I didn't even notice at first. Then I started noticing them and I chalked it up to flashbacks or PTSD or whatever you want to call it. All of the hallucinations seemed to happen after I tried psychedelics.
Then I got used to it and didn't think anything of it.

After a bit I realized not only had I started getting auditory hallucinations before bed but this also coincided with my interest in lucid dreaming, and my dreams had become more vidid and memorable in addition to the time period right before bed.

For a little I never tied them together though, and for a short period I started thinking maybe psychedelics brought out latent psychological disorders.

Then I realized that it was hypnogogia related. I'm kinda surprised I didn't make the connection sooner because in high school (before I experimented with anything aside from weed which kills dreams and alcohol which doesn't much help either) I was relatively fascinated with the ethereal feelings and strange memories of the period right before I feel asleep.

In addition I've become much more aware of how preexisting audio sensations can play a roll. For example if it I am running the air conditioner in my apartment my window is closed and my fan is off, which means there is minimal outside noise when I go to bed. If I don't play music the relative silence can either completely dampen or intensify the experience. The music I'm listening to when I go to bed (which is almost always unless I'm enjoying silence on a rare night) comes into play, as well as if I actually fall asleep with the music on (rarely) or have a brief moment of complete conscience to turn off the music before completely falling asleep.

Ha, how long winded was that? I find it rather fascinating though. It's my version of a depravation tank.
