1 Monotub vs. 2 Dubtub's Question (DETAILED)

With 4 Qts. of rye spawn and 12 Qts. of bulk substrate...  build 1 Monotub with all 16 Qts. (4:12), or build 2 Dubtub's with 8 Qts. (2:6) a piece?

Which is a better choice with respect to:  colonization time (and general timeline from spawn run to harvest), total yield, number of flushes (ease of dunking perhaps?), etc.

DETAILS:

Spawn = Rye seed
Bulk Sub = 30% hpoo
          30% coir
          20% straw
          10% coffee grounds
          5% gypsum
          5% verm
Spawn:Bulk Ratio = 1:3
Bulk sub depth = 4"
Casing = 50/50+ at 1/2" depth
Note: There are 57.75 cubic inches in a quart.

To build ONE - 27 Qt. Sterilite Monotub

4 Qts. spawn + 12 Qts. bulk = 16 Qts. total

16 Qts. * 57.75 cubic inches = 924 cubic inches
924/4 = 231 cubic (square) inches

27 Qt. Sterilite Monotub dimensions = 16.38"L x 13.25"W x 11.63"H
16.38 * 13.25 = 217 square inches (footprint of monotub)

11.63" - 4" (bulk sub) + 0.5" (50/50+ casing) = 7"
Is 7" from sub floor to lid OK for monotub?

...OR...

Build TWO - 7 Qt. Sterilite Dubtub's ... (calculations done per dubtub)

2 Qts. spawn + 6 Qts. bulk = 8 Qts. total

8 Qts. * 57.75 cubic inches = 462 cubic inches
462/4 = 115.5 square inches

7 Qt. Sterilite Dubtub dimensions = 14.38"L x 8"W x 6"H
14.38 * 8 = 115.04 square inches (footprint of one dubtub)

12" - 4.5" = 7.5" clearance in tub.


Any thoughts on performance between the two setups here?  They're spawning at the same 1:3 ratio, sub depth for both will be the same 4", total amount of substrate is the same (16 qts. in one monotub and 8 qts. a piece in two smaller dubtub's).  Any Pros/Cons here?

I have not tried either method of growing.

Although, I have seen more awesome monos than dubs. :imo:

Max yield is determined by the amount of sub, so it'd be the same for each.

If you had two tubs you'd have a spare if contam attacked one ?
