Golden Straw

I just went to a garden market and they were selling bales of "golden straw". If I remember correctly wheat straw is the best straw suited for mycology. I was just wondering if anyone new what kind of straw golden straw was. The place was closed when I went there, but the straw was outside with the sign in front saying "golden straw" $8.99.

Also would this be the best time of year to stock up on straw? After fall is it going to be a bitch to find it?

If it is gold in color with hollow stalks it is probably wheat straw which is what you want. Someone there will know. It is more than likely wheat straw.
fall is the easiest time to find it depending on where you live because fall and straw and hayrides and apples and pumpkins all go together wonderfully. But a bale of straw will last you quite a long time unless you are using it exclusively.  Mixed with other substrates though and it goes pretty far.

Yeah, i've stuff that was just labeled "straw" at another place and it had a golden color, but this stuff seemed to be a little lighter. I was just wondering which one was wheat.

Wheat straw is very light due to the hollow stems. Oat straw is more dense and is not as suitable for your projects.
