I was just looking at that pic also, they look like grains to me but I noticed 1 other thing.  if humidity is an issue stuff your tubs holes with poly to hold in some Rh.:thumbup:  you did say they were dry.:shrug:

grain unfortunatley is what you see in the new ish one (f cond. 9-7). i do have polyfill in most all the holes of the older one. im going to dunk later today, 4 hours cold running water on the old one.

thanks for the verm idea. i was hoping that would work for the older one but its been like that forever. i swear whenever i attempt to start up a grow operation as large and glorious as my first, this always happens with the test runs. ive had cakes sit for 2 months. tried everything (well close to everything).

My first FC took like a ridiculous 5 weeks before I saw a single pin. I didn't know what the fuck I was doing.

I thought it was dead, and was real close to tossing it. But I kept fanning and misting and then one day a couple of pins finally popped up. And it started to fruit pretty well after that. The flushes weren't great by any means, but they were solid.

i been waiting some 19 days now for my cake

they started pinning around 9 days

stoped

and just the other day i added perlight been working on rh
coveren all my holes and wam bam

they look like they grew a little

i didnt see any pins for 12 days, and then injected water and 2 days after that pins everywhere

im starting to understand that maybe i should have consolidated.... geeeez! i made a mistake on the first one and didnt consolidate at all but the second one had planty of time, plus it has only been since the seventh on that one. please stop repeating yourself!

ive decided to wait one more day. then ill soak for 4 hours

ive been misting about 5 + times a day - :foshizzle:

low humidity here though, but i have a humidifier on it. its most likley from thw two weekend i was gone. im voting more and more for a dunk

those holes look pretty big to be not lightly stuffed with polyfill.

I use mini monos/double tubs with smaller hles than that without any polyfill and they work pretty well, but my ambient rh is around 50%.

i would agree with veda then, i think when i saw the pics i was probably under the influence of ambien
they do look like they have been misted
one thing you can do to improve the rh is to either tape those holes with micropore or medical tape or like veda said use polyfill. i would op towards maybe medical tape on the bottom holes and polyfill on the upper ones, just so that any mushrooms that perhaps get that big dont grow into the polyfill
secondly it could be the myc on the top is becoming overlaid, because i can see yellowed myc on the edges which is normal to an extent but if you have an abundance of it(its usually highly aerial mycelium) it can get matted down by being overly wet from excessive spraying. i wouldnt worry about it too much though because it seems to be on the edges only which is normal. plus your sub in general from what i can see looks pretty healthy.

i think i see some knots on the new ish one today! its hard to tell on the old one because of the casing layer.

if the knots are what i think they  are and things start finally moving, ill gauge what to do to the old one on that.

the holes are 1/8", polyfill loose in most of them on the old one, the rest open. much fewer holes on the newish one, no polyfill.

i only have holes on the sides of both. would holes in the top help the RH like it would in a shotgun?

not with out holes in the bottom also and a 4-5" layer of damp perlite.

you need the rising updraft to carry rh up to help with that.:thumbup:

Consolidation isn't necessary for bulk grows.  I'll maybe wait a day after I think it's fully colonized, just to make sure, but so far the longest it's taken me to see pins was 6 days.  I'll also add that I've had good results thus far.  I may allow some bulk to consolidate one day, just to see if it makes a difference.  But from what I've gathered from older threads as well as my own personal experience is that consolidation isn't necessary.

Now I will say that I haven't done a monotub yet but I have done plenty of bulk trays and they're not so different in the ways that they work.  But I've seen plenty of grows where people didn't let them consolidate and they turned out just fine.

I'm not bashing your post, I'm just saying...  :wink:
