Wimpy pre-flush on premium compost. Please read.

Hey guys, my friend is using some Dung Bros compost in small aluminum baking thingys. The depth is 2 inches on some and 3 on the others. Oh, and NO CASING layer, which is prob the biggest problem.. THey colonized beautifully and quickly. But now, hes getting wimpy shrooms that look oxygen starved or something (Even though fanning is happening) and he never even saw the pinset come in. Yet now that these babes are shooting out, the pinset seems to be coming in. I have a feeling that it is a sort of pre-flush before teh big one, maybe it wants to fruit so bad? He can now see the first pin set come on, but with some of these little lengthy guys already sprouted out. Also, the surfaces seem to dry up, even though teh thing is loaded with perlite with walls dripping. He wishes he would've cased, but has had great success with dung and not casing, getting 4 flushes with not a hint of contams.. Anyone has some words of advice? He was thinking about throwing some verm just to keep the surface moist to influence more pinning, but would this introduce contams as easily as a casing does? I think his ass should've just cased.

Thanks troops

i think a big problem might be the depth. I have always heard of and used a depth of 4 to 6 inches, and it always has left me with beautiful yields. I cant help with the rest cuz i have never used perlite or anything. if the surface is dry than maybe jus spray the substrate with a water/h2o2 mixture.
