Veils breaking open on pins?!

My BRF cake is in its third or fourth day of pinning. The biggest pin is no more than an inch tall and the veil looks like it already separated. I can see the gills. A few others are doing it too.

Temps 65 -78, fan 4 - 8 times a day, I mist occasionally, and the RH is 98 - 100%. The cake is on the first flush, but is about 2 or 3 weeks old. It wasn't pinning so I redunked it about 2 weeks ago for 12 hours. I also have a lot of pinning going on.

Could this be a sign of low moisture content? Should I dunk it again?

Ive been told it can be caused by dry substrate, or flooded substrate.  You can look at similar threads below this for more information.  You could also use the search.

All that, and possible contams too.
But start with a search, then probably a pick-and-dunk.

I'm pretty sure I have no contams. I guess I'll dunk then. I don't think it can hurt. Do I need to pick off my biggest baby or can I dunk it for 12 hours? It is about .5 - 1" in size.

If the cap is opening, there's no point. It's done growing.

Did you dunk when you birthed the cakes?

Yeah I dunked for about 24 hours. Then I dunked a few weeks later for 12 hours. I'm gonna dunk. Wish me luck

68 is a bit on the cold side, can you keep it from getting quite that cold?

It wasn't pinning. I figured since it'd been sitting in the FC for awhile they may have dried out a bit so I dunked again. The cake may around 4 weeks old. It has just started to form hyphal knots, albeit slowly, around a week ago. I'm thinking I should dunk.

I can probably keep the temperature above 70 at least. Hopefully I can fix this

Did you Dunk and roll the cake I find the roll helps keep a micro climate of moisture on the cake then I mist the cake 3 times a day

No need to roll twice only roll after the initial first dunk

Lol I get why you dunked it again because the suspicion of it being dried out all im saying is theres no need to roll again. Just a good 24 hour dunk should rehydrate the cake and its first verm layer

Haha sorry I thought you said something about dunking. All this stress is clouding my head! Do you think I'll be alright? I'm just looking for some reassurance.

Oh I also must make note of the color oddities of my mushrooms. My caps seem off colored. They are like a light tannish when most of the cubensis I have seen have dark brownish caps. What to say about this? Why?

I have at times different color caps on my cubes during the same flush no biggie its a good. Well only time will tell if the cakes all good I guess

When I'm not sure about a cake i isolate it in a 2 liter pop bottle terrium

I think they are fine, I was just wondering if maybe a lack of moisture content within the cake would produce off colored mushrooms.

Just put em back in the FC after a 14 hour dunk. I have two small pins still on that are heavily bruised and are pretty blue. I'm wondering if these will grow or will they begin to rot?
