How long can shrooms be left after the veil breaks

Ok,
I've got some shrooms growing nicely. Some have past the stage where their veil breaks, others still have a couple of days. I don't believe that shrooms loose potency after the veil breaks since I haven't been able to find any factual evidence supporting that theory. So my question is, can I just let the most mature shrooms just keep growing untill the others are ready? Or is there a point at which the fruitbody will start to die? (Note: I know eventualy the fruitbodies die, but will they last say 4 or 5 days?)

The only problem with doing that is that they'll drop spores onto your fruiting surface possibly inhibiting further flushes.

its not that the mushrooms get 'less potent', but when the veil breaks, that signals the mushroom to cease production of psilocybe and psilocin (sp?). They will continue to get larger, but not any more magical.
