Do pyschedelic paradigm shifts bring us closer to "the nature of truth"?
    #11049134 -

One can argue that they would do so no better than a willed paradigm shift but the problem lies therein.

Will is an extension of ones current paradigms and only through the transcendence of will can we achieve a true paradigm shift.

Psychedelics seem to carry out this task, there is no need to will a shift, it will simply happen and if one is humble and open to new ideas one should be able to in the least benefit on some personal level from this shift.

However now we discuss the nature of truth.

Could truth be thought of as the sum of all of a subjects possible paradigms.  To find the true nature of something would you not need to see it from every "angle".

If this is the case than do or do not psychedelics aid us in our never ending quest to come closer to (but never actually reach) the nature of truth?

If you're looking for truth you don't need a paradigm shift, its always there.

If you're looking for answers, you'll never find any.

The answer to every question is always another question.:gameover:

but do you think this has to do with the inability of our feeble minds to comprehend all possible paradigms of something.

I think it's possible that psychodelics may give us a better picture of what is going on in this material experience. It can, especially in the higher dosages give one a glimpse into the chaotic nature of energy. Something the "mentally ill" often experience without drugs.

Why not?  This seems like a logical and rational way to determine something's true nature.

Of course seeing from every angle would be impossible IMO.

Right, I don't think we have the capacity to see something from every angle - but if we could, couldn't that allow us to experience its true nature?

Are psychedelics a tool similar to the telescope and microscope in that they provide us access to previously unknown aspects of the universe?  Or are we just fooling ourselves into believing mushrooms shine a light into the darkness?  I guess I am struggling with this.

Well we will never know. I'm guessing that psychedelics are a good tool however limited. Once you experience the terror of the chaotic nature of matter you will understand a part of where your anxiety comes from. Not necessarily a positive for many people.

What I believe they showed me is that I could not take a full view of what is actually happening.

Hmmm.  How about this?  Psychedelics are a bonfire and as the light from that fire illuminates the forest, more darkness is revealed.

Sure

I'm suspecting that to witness full on everything that is going on would lead to instant madness. Once all the shields are down Scotty you are a sitting target for the lazers of infinity.

The two things that cause all of this human anxiety and so creates our dysfunctional culture... our fear of death and our fear of experience.

I guess that is why many people strive for and appreciate structure in their lives.  Monday to Friday, 9 to 5, breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all social constructs that keep us safe from new experiences and hold the concept of death at an arm's length.  Psychedelics disrupt all of this and shove chaos in your face.

Often true. Not for everyone however. It's a courageous act IMO to take a very large dose knowing full well you might freak out into madness, intense fear or worse.

Many take a little dose or the average dose and call it a day, claiming bragging rights.

But you are correct. We (most of us) crave that boring structure for the security it brings. Waiting for some event outside ourselves to give us the courage to live full out. I often think much death anxiety is caused by the feeling that we haven't yet begun to live.

The true gift of life is often unappreciated. It's not until death is facing us that we begin to realize this. IMO if one is willing to search for the truth, one can find it with psychedelics, meditation, or spiritualism. Psilocybin can put one into a higher dimensions. It all depends on how one accepts, and interprets the trip.

I have no idea what you are referring to. What is this "truth" you claim can be found with psychedelics?

It sounds like religious clap trap.:monkeydance:

If you go into a trip for no particular reason, you are a sitting target for the lazers of infinity. Psychedelics are a tool but, they aren't always manipulated correctly. One has a car. One could drive it to a destination. Or once they get inside are overwhemled by driving, go in cirlces, and just get out. BTW some choose to express their truths' in religion. I haven't come to change anyone's religion. Don't worry.

If you think of truth as the sum of all of a subjects possible paradigms, there's no truth; for the sum of all elements equals zero. But if you think of truth that way, then your own definition isn't true; for there are other possible paradigms.

I'm walking in circles soon enough, and this happens whenever I begin to talk about truth and reality. If "reality is what you can't get away with" then again, there's no truth: panta rhei.
