Just some pics and a couple questions

Went to a forest I've never been to before and found some interesting mushrooms, a few I knew and have found before and a few that are new to me.

Russula sp. I'm not very good at keying a Russula down to species.



Polyporus sp. I think these may be Polyporus brumalis or Polyporus varius



Amanita virosa, I kinda wanted to tell a park ranger that these are growing right next to the trails.  Being brilliant white and attractive I could just see a small child munching on one of these.



I think this is a Russula sp, anyone got any idea what is really is?



I think this could be a Gymnopilus sp, perhaps Gymnopilus bellulus?  Anyone?



Cantharellus cibarius, these chants look like they're being taken over by parasitic fungus, any ideas?



And last but not least I found this on the way out of the forest.  It was getting dark so I didn't snap any photos in the field.  It looks like Amanita cokeri but I'm in SW Ohio and it was found in a mixed forest (mostly deciduous).  Any guesses?



Any help would be nice and as always enjoy the photos!

Where abouts are you located? I have always wanted to find a Destroying Angel, but never have here in Washington.

Amanita virosa is a European mushroom, consider A. bisporigera for east coast specimens.

Amanita subcokeri may be a better choice if found in Ohio, A. cokeri is more common to the south.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize A. virosa was strickly european. Also I didn't think it was A. corkeri due to the fact that it was found in Ohio.  Didn't know about A. subcorkeri. Thanks for the lesson. :thumbup:

So is A. bisporigera the same just with 2 spored basidia?

That is the second Amanita in the Audubon Guide (Caesarea was the first) that claim to be in America but aren't.

So are there any Destroying Angels on the West coast?

The two spored thing isn't really that consistant.  Its common to find four spored A. bisporigera.

There are no field guides that have up to date information about Amanita.  Hopefully warriorsoul will write one.

We have Amanita ocreata.  In December, Amanita phalloides is extremely common.

So up north here in Washington is it A. verna, then? The Audubon guide says ocreata is a SW US mushroom, and verna is the PNW version. Is the guide right about this?
