Could I teach english as a foreign language if I am really shy?
    #11043237 -

I have been unemployed for almost a year and am getting desperate, not because I have responsibilities to meet, but because I am dying from the monotony of being holed up in my room living on a trickle of income.

The thought of teaching abroad both excites and scares the hell out of me. I am a nervous wreck when giving a speech, but I think teaching is a little more relaxed than the typically prepared classroom speech you do in highschool or college. I also feel like the cultural/language barrier might give some feeling of protection from judgment, but I could be wrong.

Another thing that deters my excitement is that I have moved all over the place in the past couple years, from college, to home, to city #1, to city #2, to home, and I feel like I'm just scampering to and fro and not making any money. My parents are feeding me small lifelines when I need them and I feel like that might make them angry that I do it once again without making much financial progress. And, that engineering degree that I slaved over in college would pretty much be shot, I think, with such a long continued period of not using any skills.

Ugh, I need to do something with my life soon, it really is getting quite embarrassing. People keep asking about what I'm doing and I have little to tell them. I don't care that much, but I wish people would relax it a little. It's getting quite tedious.

Then again, maybe I couldn't even find a job teaching abroad. But I think it's pretty possible. How do you feel?

yeah thats one of those things that once youre in it you just do it... when youre not some people go the route of getting anxious over it. these things happen, id say its a safe bet that once you dive in, youll do just fine.
