Please Help Me ID these California Mushrooms

Hello, all -

I've been reading these forums for a while, this is my first post. I collected these this past weekend and am wondering if there's any chance they're actives (although I doubt it). Thanks in advance for any help.



Habitat:
In redwood forest in south SF bay area; growing in wet mud next to a waterfall.

Gills:
White or beige - see picture



Stem:
1-2 inches, very thin, white and smooth. - see pictures





Cap:
Small, the largest no bigger than a finger tip, about 0.25 to 0.5 inches. Tan, beige or light brown (one cap was nearly white), conical, convex. Mostly smooth with some light peeling.








Spore print color:
I did my best here, removing a cap and allowing it to sit for a few days, but it didn't drop any spores. Others that I had allowed to sit on their side seemed to drop some spores, although not in a pattern. The color is a purplish tinge of brown, which isn't captured that well in the picture, unfortunately.





Bruising:
No apparent bruising.

Your mushrooms are Inocybe and/or Psathyrella.

Thanks, guys - I thought they may have been psathyrella just from looking at other pictures on here...

From what I understand, both may have some active qualities similar to aminitas but are pretty toxic aside from that and therefore inedible, is that right?

Neither Inocybe or Psathyrella are active like Amanitas.

A few rare species of Inocybe contain psilocybin, most are toxic. 

Psathyrellas are nontoxic and inactive.

i think you are confusing muscarine [a nasty toxin found in many Inocybe species and others] and muscimol [a compound found in the psychoactive Amanita species].

i don't know where you got the idea about Psathyrella.
