Where Have You Traveled To?
    #10998996 -

So, where all have you guys been?

I'm a big fan of traveling, and have been lucky enough to visit several other countries for reasonable periods of time. Depending on where you are going and what you intend to do, it can obviously be expensive, but there are several resources available that help minimize the cost. Thus far, I have utilized:

Homestay programs (India)
Couchsurfing (West Coast, US)
Volunteering (Israel)
Study abroads (in Greece, Belize, and the UK)
Shoe-string backpacking (Costa Rica, Nicaragua)

Despite one of my adventures lasting 8 months, I always manage to meander back to where I started--trying to salvage that magical feeling and wondering where the hell the time went. Like most folks, I eventually become tied down again with work or school, but guiltily find myself dreaming and plundering through websites in pursuit of the next place.

A few helpful sites:

www.wikitravel.org
www.delayingtherealworld.com
www.lonelyplanet.com

i'm currently WWOOFing in the czech republic.  it's my first time out of the country.  after i leave this farm in like 3-5 months, i'll travel around as much of europe as possible, couchsurfing and hitting up friends.  then back onto another farm in the CZ until my subscription ends.

I've never traveled out of the country (well, not since I was a little kid), but I did spend a good month and a half on the road this summer.

Places in the country I've been and I had a great time:
Knoxville and Nashville, Tennessee. Went to Knoxville for an SU vs. Tenn football game. It was a very hospitable town and a great college football experience. Nashville was cool too.
Chicago, Ill.
New York City
The Adirondacks
San Diego/Coronado (my grandparents lived on Coronado. I loved that place.)

My plan (goal?) is to spend the summer of 2011 traveling the country. Crashing on couches, going to various music fests, camping here and there. I really hope I can make it happen. I've seen the couch surfing site before, but thanks for the other resources.

Arden looks like you've done a lot, thats pretty cool.

Costa Rica to me was a really cool place not that far from the states. I want to go back there sometime.

I thought I was the only one who obsessed with the shapes of sentences.

Neuron, that's a buttload of countries.

Do you speak other languages?

Yeah, my family and I traveled a lot when my father was a multi-millionaire(before the dot com crash).

I've taken 3 years of French, and 3 years of Spanish.

I intend on learning Japanese in a few years.

Circular Vortex and Neuron, what were your favorite places out of the countries you listed?

Thanks for sharing, guys. I would like to see a basic correlation study that shows a positive relationship between psychedelic drug use and an affinity for travel.

I should probably also mention that I have traveled in the US to several places in: GA, SC, NC, TN, FL, AL, KS, CO, MT, CA, WA, OR, KY, IL. (Let's hope the abbreviations are right).

Despite the otherwise strange individuals I encountered there, the landscape was definitely beautiful.

Were the people there racist towards the native Africans in your opinion?

WWOOFing is my next feat, I could maybe use some advice so I may be PMing you relatively soon.
