pf tek, day 14 from inoculation w/ pics

Well, right off the top this is proving to be a more hopeful venture than my last.

I have 7 jars of BRF/VMC that were inoculated thursday morning.  Two of the jars were inoculated with an extra syringe from the sporestore.com, and guess which are the only two jars that show no signs of growth?

the other 5 jars ALL show minor mycelium growth ranging from 5mm in diameter to 1.5cm in diameter.  I only took a picture of the two jars with the largest growth, and here they are.

Ehhh. All the syringes I got from the spore store gave me contam'd jars. They are not a recommended vendor and there's a good reason why. I got growth but it nearly always turned a shade of green and I had to toss entire batches.

Well, here are the remaining jars on day 14.  The other jars that were inoculated with the old spores from sporestore show (no suprise) mold and were tossed.

The strain is B+

The medium is VMC/BRF and WBS

1/2 pint jars


How long before they will be ready for birthing? Any comments, thoughts, suggestions?  This is my first cultivation attempt and any input is appreciated!

Those will be ready to birth in
about two weeks, give or take a few days.

Thanks for the info!

I do have a fruiting chamber ready.  I planned on birthing the cakes in their own individual foil pan with pearlite on the bottom.  I was going to use two of the jars and case them as follows:  pearlite on bottom, vmc on top of that, substrate on top of that, and vmc/brf mix on the very top. 

And yeah, I was going to try doing a bulk grow, but am still a little unsure.  My main goal is to inoculate more jars, as I only had the one syringe.  I'll figure that out when it comes time :smile:

Also, my WBS jars seem to be a bit dry, but I'm not sure.  Is there a good way to tell, and if so, is there a good way to add a little hydration to them?

If I was you I would make a Grain lc out of one of those wbs jars they will recover and you will have myc. syringes for a long time.

A grain LC? your link didnt work.  As far as my casing, should I just cut out the pearlite completely and only use it for the the cakes?

Also, does keeping the jars upside down vs right side up while they are cultivating make any difference?

im not exactly sure what tek that is. Doesnt sound like a great idea.

having a moisture layer underneath is an old outdated method, while it may seem like a good idea, it just encourages pinning where you dont want it.

When doing cased trays just fill your tray with substrate and the casing layer on top. lining the tray with black plastic bag helps stop side as the plastic sticks to the substrate.

Dont add fresh pf cake mix ontop, it will contaminate before being colinised. if you want to case your crumbled cakes, just crumble it into a tray and add a casing layer ontop. id just leave them as cakes though. Casing doesnt increase yeild.

Why dont more people use this method? this seems to be the most cost, time, and labor effecient method of producing viable syringes.
