Could you use polyester quilt batting to make filter lids by just screwing the lid on while it is draped across the jars top just wondering

It's definitely possible as polyfil is often used as a filter medium.  Just be careful not to get it wet, as you'll allow contams to wick through...

I'd say give it a shot with a test jar or two and let us know how it works out.

the only issue I might imagine is at the threads.. sometimes those can be big holes.
