Yes, well.. the second that you repeat the same words about your feelings that the plants are 'meant to be eaten', but instead after having cultivated them, from seed, for years, yourself, instead of spending $100 to buy some from Thailand or from the long work of another persons hand and proceed to comment about how quickly they grow back.. Then perhaps I wouldnt think you're so ignorant..
You would not be so eager to 'perpetually harvest' this plant, for its hallucinogenic effects, that, as has already been said, can be just as easily obtained from OTHER FASTER GROWING cacti, that I might add are not under threat of extinction, had you witnessed first hand the rate at which this gem of a living organism actually grows.
You speak of 'hard grown' as if its something you know about, but if you did, why, I ask, would you show such beautiful plants and then plainly admit you didn't grow them? Where are the rest? If you can show me that you're NOT ignorant as to what you're talking about, then I will retract EVERYTHING I said. If you do grow these from seed, have large specimens, have witnessed the rate of growth, appreciate beauty of the plant, etc... And still believe they're 'meant' solely for consumption, Then I'm certainly not of the opinion you're ignorant. Just heartless.
My feelings are exactly the same about the Huichol.. Tarahumara.. Licensed Peyoteros.. and any other sect/cult/religion/teenager in their basement that seems to think that they can take and keep taking whatever they want and never put anything back, as if it was made for their pleasure and enjoyment and will never run out... So please don't feel as if being singled out.
Flora said: um... i see nothing wrong with consuming peyote. sure, trichs are always there, and sure, trichs are always lacking. i'd rather harvest two 3 year old buttons than chop 2 feet of rainbow bridge. and though brigesii is close to lw, it is NOT the same.
if you want to consume lophs, it's easy to shorten the 20 year wait to 3 years. germ seeds, graft to pereskiopsis spathulata, regraft to myrtillocactus geometrizans or trichocereus sp., degraft, root, and grow for one year on own roots. you can grow softball sized lophs in three years this way.
Wow, Flora.. Whether you're hard growing your loph's at the same rate grafted specimens grow or you've got a certain species with 25% mescaline content, I don't know. But if you can consume two three year old buttons for effect, you've got something NOBODY else has for sure!
Also, what is rainbow bridge? It certainly cant be T. Bridgesii if you consider two feet of growth to be equivalent to a cumulative six years of Lophophora growth.. Im intrigued. Please divulge. I know that Bridgesii's around here will easily put on 18+ Inches of growth yearly once established.. perhaps you've been consuming Saguaro? Considering its growth rate, I certainly understand your point and concerns about sacrificing two feet!
