Who uses night vision?
    #10928572 -

I'm seriously thinking about buying this guy to go shroom hunting at night. Reviews seem decent enough for what i want to use it for. Has anyone ever used night vision. I would get it more for seeing cows and any cops/farmers that might try to creep up at me at night since i never use a flashlight

if you are hunting places you can't go during daylight, you're missing out on the potential for relaxation mushroom hunting can provide.

I am so glad I live in a place that I can roam for miles and miles and miles without trespassing and where I can find ANY sort of mushrooms. Also, there is no "mushroom picking forbidden" bullshit like in some state parks in the US (I find that a total outrage and worthy of fascist dictatorships, not "free" countries, to be honest). Anyone can pick every mushroom they want on public property.

QFT~

When I moved to Australia and started learning the laws I found out I needed to get a licence to pick mushrooms on Public and Crown land or face a very hefty fine and/or imprisonment. I haven't got one and I don't intend on getting one either.

To me this is basically the same as if they'd say you can't catch drops of rain in a cup and drink it or charge me per m3 of air that I breath. There has to be a limit on the nonsense rules and laws they impose on us. I'd do the exact same thing as you and would never get a license. It's the people's lands, waters and skies. What they give to us belongs to the people, fuck corporations or the government. I pay taxes galore, I pick me berries and mushrooms as much as I want.

I am not very versed in the ways that politics works but how can we go about trying to have such draconian laws changed? write to members of parliament? how do these laws even get introduced in the first place?

I think your best chances are to find people with the same opinion on these laws and to form an interest group and then start to make your voices heard, start petitions, etc.

Night vision goggles is a great idea.I don't know why I ever thought of it.  Trespassing does suck that's why I say if you can't hunt them then grow them...  I do love hunting them though. LOL

I agree, the only licence that I've bought is a fishing licence as they have fishery officers that patrol the wharves. I like to relax when I fish,, :fishing:

Well, I think fishing needs to be regulated to some extent. Simply because I want there to be fish tomorrow, still. People tend to exploit nature too much the 'Oh-look!-a-dozen-buffaloes-let's-butcher-them-all-at-once-who-cares-if-we'll-go-hungry-when-they-are-all-gone!' style. But mushrooms are still going to be there tomorrow. Picking the mature fruit body that's accomplished its reproductive mission by dropping its spores isn't harming the organism, so there really is no sense in requiring a license.

I agree with fishing quotas as I want my grandkids to be able to experience what we as humans have done for generations.

I don't buy fish because I think they are being commercially overfished as it is. If I want to eat fish I catch it myself.

yea I hate buying hunting and fishing licences but, I do for a peace of mind.If we could buy a licence to pick shrooms in the USA I'd have to say I'd buy one.  Till then night vision goggles

If it included the right to pick and consume actives I'd think about it...

i'd still handle a mushroom liscence the way i do the hunting and fishing; when i can afford it.

incidentally; i do a hell of a lot more mushroom hunting than fishing these days.

I'm not disagreeing with you guys, but how would you feel if you saw a group of commercial mushroom hunters  disturbing the habitat and picking your local park clean of edible mushrooms?

It's a problem we face where I'm at.

Re: Who uses night vision? [Re: ShockValue]

Well, it was like that where I live back in the 80's when hoards of Russian immigrants would basically sweep the forests clean of mushrooms to sell them at the local markets. Fortunately that has stopped and the fungal population has since recovered.
However, a license is not going to solve that problem. Commercial hunters could simply buy a $30 license and still pick the forests clean. The only way to counter this is to have forest rangers enforce certain rules, like "no Sir, two large suitcases doesn't count as recreational picking for personal consumption!".
Anyone who carries a basket, bag or small backpack with shrooms should be considered a non-commercial hunter, however, and left alone.
The large fishing fleets are all "licensed", yet they are still fishing the oceans clean. So much for licenses.

We don't have a lot of choice edibles where I am, so the problem you mentioned doesn't occur here. If it did then I would be all for regulation to protect native species.

When I hunt actives, I do so usually in sustainable forests that implement a slash and burn policy, that is they grow trees for 20+ years. Harvest and then light on fire whatever is left. I think that is more damaging than me picking the mushrooms.

Also being in possession of any Psilocybe containing mushroom here is illegal, so either way I am fcuked. I wont get a fine if I have a licence but I will get a conviction.

Edible mushroom picking culture is only in its infancy here in Australia, I see no reason to buy a licence. $240Au dollars a year it would cost for me to be legit.

@ The OP: I have never used night vision goggles but I want some!
