Night vision Goggle Question!
    #5468510 - 04/01/06 06:30 PM (17 years, 9 months ago)

Can anyone give any suggestions about what type of night vision goggles to buy? I don't know if goggles with 2X or 3X magnification is better than 1X when your out in the field at night. I would like somebody's input that has and uses the night vision technology for hunting. Thanks!! I know some great places, but it is only safe at night.

the caps glow white in the dark, after a few hunts its easy as fudge, allthough nv would put you ahead of the game, running from cops, etc. . .

well, jack-o-lantern mushrooms glow in the dark, and they are sometimes confused with chanterelles. As a friend once told me, if you eat the wrong ones, they won't kill you, but you'll have both holes open for a wek or so :P

As far as psilocybe, I've often thought about this in precarious situations where you would need to go out late at night, perhaps with night vision goggles, and I've owned a pair of Israeli made ones about 15 years ago, for that very reason.

Nope it didn't make the psilocybes stick out like a sore thumb. However, evey substance does have it's own 'resonance' frequency, that is a certain frequancy that you can bombard it with, and it will stick up like a sore thumb.

whether or not this is in the area of night vision, I don't know..For example, starlight scopes will merely increase the light, so you can see it night, wich might help, but true infrared scopes is a whole nother ball of wax.

That involves sending out infrared frequencies, like a flashlight (covered with an infrared filter), so you can see in total darkness

That's the kind I had 15 years ago, but they got ripped off, and didn't work for looking for shrooms anyway.

But I always thought, that there is a certain frequency, possibly infrared, that psilocybe will reflect the most, as opposed to any surrounding environment.

If infrared scopes were to work, they would have to be modified by frequency, In other words, you would need an adjustable frequency scope, then be able to find a patch, and go up and down the scale until you found the sweet spot where it shows up like a bright light.

That, of course, is not on the market..Infrared is mostly used to detect heat, like humans..but shrooms don't give off heat..It's a whole different frequency area, and that I don not know...

But I am fascinated by the subject.

What you need is standard infrared scopes and a true GEEK, who knows how to adjust settings.....know what I mean?

but I do admit there is nothing like a cool shroom spot you find naturally, where you don't need any of this night vision stuff..

I even know of cool spots with no traffic at all with views of the SF skyline, from on top of a hill, a small woodchip dump...It's the coolest thing in the world...You can go in the daytime and even have a picnic, no hurry at all, and certainly not any need for night vision scopes.

That, takes years to find...but it's worth it
