HELP, I MAY BE OVERREACTING, BUT...
    #1089420 - 11/27/02 12:04 AM (21 years, 4 months ago)

MY FRIEND GOT ONE OF THE HOMESTEAD EZ GROW KITS, I KNOW, YOU DON'T HAVE TO SAY ANYTHING, BUT HE'S A NEWBIE AND IT'S HIS FIRST TIME, AND I READ EVERYONE'S ADVICE AFTER HE GOT IT. BUT THE SITUATION IS....HE GOT THE KIT 8 DAYS AGO, IMMEDIATELY HE DROPPED THE SPORE SWAB IN THE RYE AND SHOOK IT... I MEAN HE SAT THERE AND SHOOK IT IN EVERY DIRECTION FOR LIKE 3 MINUTES, THEN, HE SAID THAT THE IDEAL TEMP FOR THE INDIA ORISSA WAS 80 DEG. SO HE DID SOME BRAIN STORMING AND DUE TO TOO MANY DRAFTS IN HIS APT, THE ONLY PLACE WARM ENOUGH THAT HE COULD THINK OF WAS BEHIND HIS COMPUTER WHERE THE WARM AIR BLOWS OUT. SO THEY SAT THERE FOR 5 DAYS AND THEN SATURDAY,HE WOKE UP AND SAT DOWN AT THE COMPUTER AND NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A DIME SIZED PIECE OF MYCELIUM AND HE THOUGHT EVERYTHING WAS COOL... BUT HE IS REALIZING THAT IT SEEMS THAT THE RYE GRAIN IS DRYING OUT... IS THIS NORMAL? AND IF NOT, IS THERE A WAY THAT HE COULD GET SOME MOISTURE IN THERE WITHOUT OPENING AND EXPOSING THE BAG TO CONTAMS?(POSSIBLY STEAM/CONDENSATION???) ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

I think if you built an incubator that it might help keep it moist, and stop it from drying out.

>HE IS REALIZING THAT IT SEEMS THAT THE RYE GRAIN IS DRYING OUT...

What exactly leads you to this conclusion?

PREPARED PROPERLY, THE GRAIN DOES LOOK KINDA DRY, NOT WET, PERHAPS EVERYTHING IS FINE AND YOU SHOULD JUST WAIT LONGER.
