slow strain ?

i started 6 half pint taz cakes 2 weeks ago .yesterday they showed their first sighns of growth..iv always herd they were fast colinizers..but iv never had a jar take more then a week to start..anyones whos grown them or just knows..that normal for this strain ??

Could be multiple things going on.  With MS, you're counting on two spores mating and germinating.  Sometimes you just get lucky and get everything going right.

Don't worry though, as long as they aren't contaminated, they'll eventually work out.

I knocked up 5 cakes a while ago.  Two of them I used to make a bulk tray and the other two I fruited as cakes, all of which have been fruiting for a while now.  One of my cakes is almost done.  The fifth cake is still colonizing, just to give you an example of how I inoculated all of those jars with the same syringe and they all developed slightly different.

I know it sucks, but you just have to wait.

Good to know. Suppose it doesn't matter really, though. It's colonizing now, sooo. It should be better now. I was just wondering if it was injected towards the center of a jar, or like the tek, down the sides and how many cc/spore ratio per jar.

Also, if you knocked them up in the center, they'll still colonize, it'll just take a little longer before the mycelium reaches the outsides of the jar.  Most people inoculate along the glass of the jar so they can see the mycelium start colonizing sooner; in case there's a contaminant so they'll know sooner, rather than waiting longer to find out.

For half pint cakes people generally use 1cc per jar.  You can use more and you can use less.  Using 1cc with multiple inoculation points better ensures that you'll have spores germinate.

Cubensis only differ from geographical locations the original specimens were originally found in, that is all.

It's true that some do develop quicker then others but as far as germination goes it's all the same. Fresh spores or 6-8 month old spores properly hydrated for 48 hours prior to inoculation normally germinate in the given 3-4 day most people will say but then there's some instances where it can take up to 14-20 days for germination.

As long as it's mycelium you're seeing be happy.
