Nitrogen question in sub.
    #10822005 -

I was just reading that added nitrogen will produce more potent, larger, and more mushrooms.  First off, is that statement true?

Secondly, spent coffee grounds adds nitrogen correct?

Thirdly, is there anywhere along the lines people add more nitrogen instead of when spawning to bulk?

nitrogen is good for shrooms but will not make your shrooms super shrooms just help them to grow to their full potential.

spent coffee is a good source of nitrogen

Used coffee grounds, very popular ingredient. Probably #2 after gypsum.

Just curious, as I have never worked with coffee grounds, but why do they have to be spent?

Because that's what the mushrooms want. Texture, moisture content, pH, all are better in spent grounds.

Makes sense to me.

If I were wanting to add some gypsum and spent coffee grounds to my horse poo project, what would be some good ratios to use?

Maybe 10% each? I bet the search engine could give a better answer. Or a bigger answer, anyway.

Edit- add an equal volume of verm too? What do you think?

Adding nitrogen won't do squat.

However, adding foodstuffs for the fungi that are high in nitrogen such as chicken manure and/or coffee grinds will give a boost to fruit size and final finished weight.  I've not seen an effect on potency.

Roger,

If you were to add Chicken Poo to your sub, what sort of ratios would you use?
Also is there such a thing as too many additives? I'm already using crushed oyster and gypsum. Will adding the poo be too much?

Thanks,

Mike

3-5% total volume of your bulk substrate with composted chicken manure.  I first read this from Agar, but RR and some other old hands use this as well. ~P~

I think nitrogen does matter. Seems I get more out of a sub before it goes bad. i.e. better 2nd, 3rd flushes.

I like 1 cup blood meal per brick coir.
