Yes, the US told Japan 'surrender or we'll drop an atomic bomb' Japan still refused to surrender after the first so the US dropped a second.

Actually the development of nuclear technology correlates with a marked decrease in world wide deaths due to war.  Whether there is causation there or not there of course debatable, but the correlation is not.

I doubt soldiers were working in the factories or living in the city, for the majority anyway. That's like  bombing a specific radio or television station and then calling it an attack against enemy media. Jargon used to disassociate the cost to human life.

Industry is as much a part of the war machine as the soldiers themselves. War means destroying anything and everything that the enemy can use against you -- factories included.

the firebombing we did was i believe worse than the nukes we dropped.

the firebombing was nearly as bad
we killed .1 mill with each nuke and did about that much when we firebombed them
and we chose heroshima and nagasaki as targets b/c they HAD NOT been bombed previously so we could kill the maximum number of civilians
