Well, Jupiter isn't ONLY gas.  It's got a bunch of moons that, once the radius of the planet gets smaller, the moons go into it b/c Gravity goes up (w/ a smaller radius: GMm/R=G).  And, since it's not only gas in Jupiter, there must be other atoms/elements in there.  But, all elements can vaporize.  So there is gaseous metals, non-metals, and gases all over jupiter.  Once they cool down, they'll solidify. 

It'd be silly to think that Jupiter/Saturn only have H and He about them....I'm not saying that I DO know the composition, I'm saying that, very likely, including the moons, there would be plenty of heavier elements to form terra firma.

Again, I take credit for my own assertions, based on what I've been taught at university and also on my first acid trip.

We know to a certain degree what Jupiter is made up of through the use of spectrographic analysis, and from what we see its made up almost entirely of helium and hydrogen.
