Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus, will remain gas giants, least till the sun dies.

The gravity is extremely strong on these planets, but not strong enough for the nuclei to fuse.

If they were big enough for nuclei to fuse, they turn into a.....star.

They do produce MASSIVE amounts of radiation, which means that possibly in their core, atoms are bumping and grinding, maybe fusing, but not at a high enough rate to change there state of matter. (though interesting note, it is believed there cores are hydrogen that is sooo compressed, that it is a liquid metal, which is why they have a magnetic field.)

Even in trillions of years, they would remain gas, maybe with enough time they could turn to helium, but no further, the pressure and heat for helium-helium, or helium-hydrogen fusion, is far far far more massive then hydrogen-hydrogen fusion.

Even in a star, once the hydrogen is gone, and He-He fusion begins, it doesn't last long, because the core is the only place where it can happen, and the reaction is so strong it literally begins to blow the star a part. The star will turn into a Red Giant, and eventually, when the helium is gone, and all thet is left are metals, non-metals, and heavy gasses, the star will nova trying to fuse them.

We're all star-dust, folks.  The carbon atoms in your body were formed in a star.  As was all of the other physical matter in the solar system.  Or so they say in university geology classes.

At any rate, this guy, whom you all think is nuts, may be a little nuts.  But he's also got at least a couple of things right.

I personally think that once a planet is dieing, the water, no longer held on by a magnetic relationship, disperses the atmosphere and migrates to the nearest thing in the outerspace for it to condense on.

Who really knows.

But man, acid is a helluva drug.




Im not trying to pick on you, but just a few corrections.


The earth formed from asteroids and comets. NOT from gasses condensing.

Gasses can condense into liquids or solids, but the structure of their atoms dont change.





Water was most likely brought here by comets, and is only here because of our atmosphere.

Though you are kinda right, without a magnetic field, we would have no water.

But to clarify, thats because with no field, the solar wind would slowly strip our atmosphere away, and with no atmosphere there is no pressure.

Water that is not under pressure will vaporize. And with no atmosphere, then no real heat retention, so water will either vaporize into space, or freeze into the ground.

But even frozen water can slowly vaporize off.


Then it may or may not collect into a comet, or 'rain' down onto another body.

I wasn't saying that fusion will happen in Jupiter or other gas giants.  I'm saying that their elements will form molecules in chemical rxns.  The molecules will get bigger and bigger and form masses of solids.  The solids will come together and float to the top or some shit and the planet will become a solid with an active center, but an in-active outer region, as our planet has.

Thus, I believe, that someday our solar system's current gas giants will become terrestrial planets, like the ones closer to the sun.

Really, we're just sitting on cooled elements.  Pushed out of the middle of the earth, where their counterparts are still molten.  And it's been shown that meteorites and comets have roughly the same composition of certain places on Earth.  Nickle and iron.  So, our crust = meteorites.  Meteorites = crusts of other older planets?

Third eye - your post #2 above w/ relation to the water, pretty well is what I was saying, minus the arrival of H20 (b/c there's really a mega-shit-ton) on comets' wings. 

The crust shifts, and thus atlantis becomes Antarctica.  Wow, what a weird name.  Antarctica...

So, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.  We're all different, with our own opinions, backed by what we've been told.

I see what your saying now.


But, considering that the gas giants are 99% gas, there are only so many bonds between hydrogen that could happen, H, H2 or H3+ are still gasses.

And He most likely will not bond with H, considering He is a noble gas.

He2 is possible but its still a gas.


I guess what im trying to say, is that will the composition of the gas giants, no matter how many times the atoms bonded to form molecules, the resulting molecules will still be gasses.

Without fusion, there will be no solid matter forming.

I don't really know anything about planet formation, but I don't think there's any reason to believe that's true.  Gas doesn't just spontaneously turn into dirt.

Not necessarily into dirt, but they do become more and more compact over time. Jupiter is a really good example of this, it actually gives off light as a result of the constant compaction that is going on.
