Messed up, need help
    #10791615 -

So one of my cakes finished yesterday, I forgot the fact that you have to bake the vermiculite before you dunk and roll. So I rinsed my cake off really well poured some vermiculite on a plate and rolled it. My buddy called me today to remind me to do it, obviously it's too late at this point. Should I rinse of the vermiculite ASAP? How fucked am I as far as risk for contamination. I can't believe I've waited this long to mess up on one little aspect like this.

I personally never bake the verm.  I have not had any problems using it right out of the bag.

I wouldn't fuck with it at this point.  Was the bag of verm fresh? I think I remember reading that RR doesn't worry about it, if the bag is freshly opened, and even if not, the chances of contams are pretty low.

IMO you'd do more harm than good from washing it off.

Your cakes SHOULD be pretty resistant to contams if they're fully colonized anyway, you may however get some contams on future flushes as any foreign spores will get a chance to germinate.  This is a always a possibility though, as spores will no doubt land on your verm when you're misting and fanning anyhow.

I never baked my verm and it worked out ok for me. just leave it for now whats done is done if there is contams they are already on the cake and you cant just wash em off. but I doubt if you'll have problems from that.

You should be ok but next time bake your verm in the oven for half an hour at 350.
