Vermiculite size

I have attempted growing 3 times and all 3 times my cakes would fully colonize but never pin. I have been using fine grain vermiculite "as big as sand grains" as my substrate, do i need to have larger grain vermiculite to produce pins?

if you get it fully colonized and it won't pin, that's not a vermiculite problem. the only way it could possibly be a verm. problem is if maybe the vermiculite is so fine that the centers of your cakes are not colonizing and for that reason, they're not fruiting.

try using chunkier verm, but that's probably not your problem. what are you using to maintain humidity? how are your cakes getting light? how are you providing air exchange? you need light, humidity, and air exchange to get fruits.

Then again you may have a bad strain. i remember a strain from PF a while ago that grew in jars fine, but didn't produce much fruit at all. one cake would only output one flush of 3 to 4 medium mushrooms, or about 1 gram. Try different spores. And you have to be sure you are following instuctions exactly. This whole thing is simple and fool proof.
