The BARBER shaves everyone who doesn't shave themselves. So, the barber doesn't shave the guy/gals who do shave. Thus, any guy or girl that DOES shave can then shave the barber, because they are not included in the portion that only the barber shaves and thus are free to shave the barber. The barber does not shave himself. He is shaved by a person who shaves themselves.

The fact is there are two different context in which "shave yourself" is used. the barber can not have someone else shave him because then he is in the "everyone who doesn't shave himself category"...but has only becomes this category after hes been shaved. he can not be shaved without falling into one of the two categories. so therefore, he can be shaved once and never again??????:smile:

As stated in other answers it is a paradox. But the paradox is created only by asking the question. Therefore to resolve the paradox the question must not exist. Thus the paradox cannot be resolved unless the definition of "question" does not involve the definition of "existence". Since anything that is scrupulated by logic must have a state of "is" then any definition must involve the definition of "existence." Unless logic has no meaning. Therefore the meaning of life is to determine whether logic has meaning or not and to present your answer to others in the most meaningfull way.

Here is the solution in my own words, and then I will see who should get 5 shrooms (maybe more than one person).

There are two groups of people in this village, those who shave themselves and those who do not shave themselves. Let's call these groups S and NOT S. The barber shaves all those and only those who do not shave themselves. This is a very tight logical relationship. It tells us that the barber shaves everyone in the NOT S group, and no one in the S group. We know he shaves no one in the S group, because he is only shaving those in the NOT S group. We can summarize this logical relationship in the following way.

If S then not shaved by the barber.
If NOT S then shaved by the barber.

As a member of the village, the barber has to belong to the S group or the NOT S group. Let's first try putting him in the S group and see if it violates any rules.

Barber = S.
If S then not shaved by the barber.
Therefore, barber not shaved by the barber.

Does that work? No, because by putting him in the S group, we are saying the barber shaves himself (i.e. he is shaved by the barber).

Ok, let's try putting the barber in the NOT S group.

Barber = NOT S.
If NOT S then shaved by the barber.
Therefore, barber is shaved by the barber.

That doesn't work either. By putting him in the NOT S group, we are saying the barber is not shaved by himself (i.e. he is not shaved by the barber).

Everyone in the town has to either shave themselves or not shave themselves. So everyone in the town has to belong to the S group or the NOT S group. The barber has to be in one of those groups, and no matter which group we put him in we get a logical inconsistency (a contradiction). Hence, there is no solution to this riddle.

The Barber has Alopecia and cannot grow hair, thus never needing a shave. If he were to need a shave, Raptor Jesus would oblige.
