getting ready to birth...
    #1074064 - 11/21/02 04:12 PM (13 years, 10 months ago)

well most of my jars are about 90% complete colonized now, but i have a few questions about telling exactly when they are ready to birth... in most of the pictures i have seen of peopels cakes the are are very bright white and you can't see any of the BRF... my cakes however are only that very bright white in the spots that initially started, and you can see more and more BRF (not alot mind you just a little brown can be seen through it) through the myc as you move away from the inoc points... my question is do i need to let the myc grow stronger in these spots b4 i birth (i think the problem mighta been only inoculating in 2 holes) or can i birth once it's done colonizing?

Wait till they're 100% colonized, give them another week, then birth your babies.

The reason why you're seeing these less white areas is because the mycelium grows so fast sometimes, that it thins out. Just wait till it becomes strong and pure white. Its worth the wait.
