Paddy straw mushrooms

Ive only eaten these from a can before . Really want to grow them , so i can eat some fresh ones. They need a really high temperature which my area lacks. Any ideas on getting them to grow in a cooler climate? I was thinking of using maybe a cold frame , or taking a seedling heating mat with a thermostat  and place that in the middle of a laundry basket filled with straw. What do you guys think? I'm ordering spawn tomorrow. Anyone grown these before?

I dunno about temperature solutions. maybe a space heater with thermostat, but that might throw off other mushies in the same room

You will have to have a thermostat controlled environment, they need temperatures in the 40 degree C range to do well.
Mostly you place the spawn into green material and let it compost and that will help increase the temperature, but you will have to ensure that you do not loose that temperature, I would go with an insulated plastic greenhouse of some sort.

Where did you find spawn?  I had to search for a while to find a culture, and then I had to shell out $45 for a plate.  It's definitely hot enough for straw mushrooms on the Gulf Coast--triple digit temps! 

So far my one experiment ended in a Coprinus contamination. :frown:
