Re: Ecuadorian mycelium-cottony or rhizostrandy? What is your experience?

I germinated my Ecuadors on agar, and they came out really cottony. I then transfered them to new dishes and it turned rhyzomorphic. I would say take the cottony jars (when they are close to fully colonized) and pour small amounts into new jars. Then you can expand your grain and most likely get a nicer mycelium.

every strain can produce either cottony or rizomorphic mycellium. it just depends on what it wants to do. if its white and looks like mycellium, it probably is.

All I ever grow now is Ecuadorians. In my experience with over 50 jars now, it has always been like that. In the spots of innoculation there will be very fine cotteny mycellium, but then some time after about 2 or 3 days it all turns rhyzomorphic.

But I'm not quite sure whether or not the mycellium that is already there is neccessarily turning rhyzomorphic or that simply the rhyzomorphic mycellium that was already there but not seen yet is just beating out the tomentose cotteny mycellium and overtaking the medium.

why is that so far down in the jar? did you have a big needle, or is that a contam?

Well, the spores ran down the jar a quiet a bit, plus I did a open jar inoculation. Thats why its so far down there.
