at this point, if they have brocoli green areas or fuzz that looks like hairs with eensy weensy pinheads, then your cakes are probably history. once you get spores all over, you just can't seem to kill them all in time. its true that in the wild, mushroom mycelium will eat just about anything organic dead or alive, but that's in the wild, and God's been at this for millions of years, so she's got the tek down. if there is any hope at all, it is to cut out visible contam and then some, and bury the rest about an inch deep outside somewhere, like under the north side of a bush.

don't despare, start over, pay close attention to sterility, and eventually you'll get to the point that it is fairly easy.

remove the contaminated mycelium from the jars outside even if it's just to throw them out. then put the jars, lids, anything that has touched the contaminated cakes into a bucket of warm bleech-water, including your hands. you do not want to bring that much contam back into your grow-lab.

I am definitely going to get rid of that contam that does not want to die and I am probably going to do it tomorrow. I am worried about that. I am not, however, too worried about the jars that have simple green contamination. I think next time I am going to do alot better with sterlization, for one, and I am going to use the cooked rice with potting soil and then put vermiculite at the top. I bought some cake pans and perlite today, so I am ready for tomorrow. I have like three cakes that overcame the mold contamination and are fine. When I am finished with the jars this time around, I am going to boil them in bleach and water to get all the nasties out. I am more surprised at how many jars came through than I am of the fact that I got contamination. I do like to do things in that order just to get some first-hand knowledge of what to do and what not to do. I didn't even wash the jars out very well after I bought them. haha What a waste of fucking time. Oh, yes. I got no lips, I got no tongue! I do believe that the broccoli green and the the tiny little fuzzes are two different contaminations, because the mycelium have no problem dealing with the broccoli, but they've been beating around the bushes and still there is no real progress. On the contrary, it looks like the bushes are trying to throw some of their spores onto the mycelium, thankfully to avail.I will just do what I have to do tomorrow.. sucks.

On the note of perlite and after seeing so many people having serious problems with not knowing so well how to use it, can any of you experienced people share with me how I should go about the perlite ?
