My DVD burner is retarded...

I have a Dual Layer DVD burner and have been having trouble with it recently. Ever since I downloaded Alcohol 120% it has been fucking up. It won't read blank DVD-Rs like it used to. It does read my Dual Layer discs though. Now ive actually had this problem before with Alcohol 120%. I did something to fix it last time but I dont remember what I did, something to do with that virtual driver alcohol puts on your system, maybe.

Now I disabled this to see if it would fix my problem, didn't work. I deleted Alcohol 120% completely and it still won't read DVD-Rs. (in the past I was able to delete alcohol and everything worked fine).

My Burner is now the only DVD drive on the system. There are no other virtual drives that are possibly fucking things up.

Any ideas on how to fix this nonsense? I mean I could just burn to Dual Layers but they're expensive.. I have a whole deck of DVD-Rs that I can burn for some things and not have to waste my Dual layers.

it could be the media.  my lite-on drive will not burn my verbatim dl lightscribe disk even though it will burn verbatim dl.  i hate always saying that money is the answer, but try throwing some money at it.  i just put in a plextor from newegg and it's burning like a champ.

remove the device (in the hardware manager)
reinstall the drivers
