pressure cooker gauge

I had a question about pressure cooker gauges.  mine broke while moving it from college going back home.  it doesn't leak or anything, but the hand constantly stays on 0.  could i simply replace it with a regular air pressure gauge that you see on air compressors or do i need to get a special one for steam?

I'd believe so, but you may have to alter it to fit and seal it good

thats not a problem.  i have a 1/4'' npt tap and teflon tape.  just need to know if the gauge can handle it because i have two lying around.

My guess is yes due to all gauges working of a pressure of a gas/liquid. Just make sure the psi range is close to the original range

Yeah, seems like it would work. May wear out faster due to the steam. Getting the right one from the manufacturer is probably better.

Don't use it unless you isolate it from the steam, like this one is.  Otherwise the temp will nuke it.

RR, what do you mean exactly? Just put it far away from the exhaust port and wherever steam comes out?  Adding a bend like that isn't nec. is it?

Yes, it is.  The loop creates an air pocket that keeps the steam off the gauge.  You get those pre-bent at any large plumbing or steam/boiler supply house.
