Annoying problem with XP and high resolution.
    #10478085 -

So I got this new 24 inch monitor a few months ago. It's running at 1920x1200. Ever since I changed the resolution, I noticed that windows that are docked on the top of the screen don't dock all the way at the top. If I lock my computer then log back in or restart, for some reason Windows XP doesn't remember that the windows were docked at the very top of the screen. They're usually somewhere around 4-5 pixels from the top.

It's not a serious problem, it just annoys the bejesus out of me to have to resize all my open windows to dock with the very top of the screen.

Anyone have any idea how to fix this problem?

Get rid of Microsoft's Windows would be my first suggestion.  Make sure video drivers are up to date.  Make sure you have "drivers" for your display and aren't using a generic profile.  Beyond that, donno.

By 'docked' do you mean maximized?

Yeah, more or less. Like a resized window where the top hits the top edge of the screen. If I actually maximize the window it fills the whole screen without that 4-5 pixel gap at the top.

Oh I see, so you can't move a window above that invisible boundary? What's there, just your wallpaper? Does your mouse move up there?

I don't know if I'll be much help though as it's pretty obvious I've never come across that problem

Well, that invisible boundary just pops up after logging in. And yeah, back ground is there and I can move my mouse there. If I resize the top edge of the window, I can drag it all the way to the top where it should be.

After you log in and the windows are misaligned, are the windows technically 'maximized' or are did they switch back to a non-maximized state?

Weird problem.  I run XP at work with 1920x1200 at work with no issues (other than complete overload of applications...)
