ID request (similar to subs?)...
    #10469567 -

Hi there, been out hunting recently. I'm in Melbourne, so I'm primarily looking for subs, but also looking for anything similar to increase my knowledge.

Fairly sure these aren't subs, as there's no bluing and were growing in grass, but otherwise they are strikingly similar. Considered Galerina but were not growing on dead wood.

Habitat: Sheltered under trees, growing in grass.

Gills: light brown, adnate.

Stem: ~4cm long, 5mm diameter, white/beige colour, hollow but with thick walls.

Cap: Honey brown, convex, older ones were wavy and concave. Very weak (broke with a light touch).

Spore print color: Charcoal

Bruising: None

Thanks for any info/IDing!

I wish I knew more about mushrooms from your side of the world so I could help more but I dont, I have no idea what it is but its not active, no blue bruising or purplish brown print.

Not all active mushrooms have purplish brown prints though, but the ones you are looking for do.

I could have swore ive read about a stropharia that grows over their that resembles subs, its one of the lookalikes to the species your looking for and would have purplish gills as in your pic but the "charcoal" print is throwing me off.

Many thanks, that might explain the itchy burny palm of hand I attributed to riding my bike a little too frantically (it was raining)...

Rashes??  This mushroom has NEVER given me any rash.  And i pick them all the time.  I've never heard of this mushroom causing rashes.

The current name for this mushroom is Leratiomyces ceres.

I would have to assume.

You could take one and crush it and smear it on your arm, then wait a while without touching the area and see if anything happens.

I did that with a maple leaf after the results of a blood test indicated a slight allergy to maple trees...  The area didn't turn red, but after an hour I was restless and itchy all over.

i meant rashes after ingestion not by touching them

LoL.  I just looked up " 'Stropharia aurantiaca' rash" on google.  This was the first result:

My embarrassing anecdote, but hopefully it will serve others well to know seeing as this is the first google hit for stropharia aurantiaca edibility: I accidentally ate about 7 large stropharia aurantiaca and experienced intestinal pain, diarrhea, and developed a skin rash over my whole body which took a few days to go away. Definitely no hallucinations.

Your results may vary as everyone reacts differently to toxins, but from my experience I would say they are not to be considered edible although it is not an emergency if you do accidentally eat some.

That is the only report I could find right off, though.
