Did the doctors forget to pull my top wisdom teeth?
    #10446105 -

When I was a senior in high school, I had the surgeory to have my wisdom teeth pulled.  All of them... or so I was told.

Fast forward three or so years later.... there is a sore swelling in the top of my mouth behind both of my top molars... and my gums are hard.  It feels distinctly like something is soon to erupt from the side of my gums.

Looking back, I don't remember ever having stitches in the top of my mouth or any swelling.  In fact, I don't have any scars or holes back there (unlike the bottom of my mouth).  Is it possible that the doctors could have made a mistake and forgot to pull my top wisdom teeth?  Don't they do post procedure X-rays to ensure this doesn't happen??  Or am I just freaking out over nothing?

What the fuck do I do?  I'm seriously panicking.  I haven't been to a dentist in a couple of years.  I have had braces treatment... what if I did in fact not get my top wisdom teeth pulled and they are erupting.  Couldn't it ruin the alignment of my top teeth?

The best way to find to find out is go get an x-ray and see what's happening there.
I wouldn't freak out so much if I were you, cause if you don't have a problem with your tooth alignment right now, you probably won't even after the wisdom teeth grow, if you decide to keep them.
I had my bottom wisdom teeth removed a few years ago, when they showed the first signs of popping out, because of lack of any space down there, and the procedure is very simple even though you'll experience some aching the next day. Nothing some good pot can't fix though.
I left my top ones grow because my alignment was good, and it stayed the same after they grew. Unless you're severely lacking of any space up there, let them grow. Its much less traumatic than pulling them out.

Just listen very carefully to what the dentist tells you too, and look up wisdom teeth removal on the net.

I mean, I didn't do what the dentist said (or actually, didn't undersand, they had me under tranquilizers and I was pretty sleepy) and it ended up pretty messy. He extracted four theeth with a local anesthesia (which is what you do when the tooth is easy to extract, but usually two teeth at the time).

I spent the whole night bleeding in my bed, blood all over my pillow, and it hurted like hell.

You had them ALL removed at the same time?
Wow...

I checked the paper work today.  Supposedly I had all four removed over three years ago, but I already knew that... I'm still skeptical, though.

So I got my dental insurance back (tomorrow I do), and I also have an appointment tomorrow for a dentist.

Man, I was really freaking out this morning.  I've since tried to rationalize the possibility of getting dental surgery as not being that bad.  When I got my wisdom teeth out 3 years ago, I got valium + nitrous oxide because I chose to have it done while awake.  They also let me listen to music on headphones, so I listened to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon.

An enjoyable experience overall, but probably not worth the month of recovery before I could fully open my jaws.

Oops, sorry.
General anesthesia makes it easier I think, and private dentists should be more gentler than public ones.

sometimes, if the wisdom teeth (a.k.a. your third molars) aren't going to get in the way of your other teeth, the oral surgeon will choose to leave them in. Many people live with their third molars just fine for their whole lives. If you don't get them removed, you just need to be sure that when you brush your teeth, you really get back there. The reason third molars can be harmful is that people neglect to take care of them because they are so far back, they develop huge cavities, and become infected.

So brush your teeth.

Well, I went to the dentist today.  I was being paranoid... I don't have my wisdom teeth anymore.. they were taken out...

The bad news is that I will still probably have to get oral surgeory.  My top back right molar is shifting far to the right and its shift all of my teeth.  The swelling and inflammation is caused by this, and food getting stuck in the gap in my gums it has created...

go to an oral surgeon, you will need surgery.

go to an orthodontist, you will need braces or invisalign.

go to a periodontist, you will need to get surgery on it, but they will be very careful and delicate not to damage your gums.

I suggest you see an ortho before doing surgery... sounds like your problem might be able to be solved with braces. they are usually cheaper than surgery and a lot less destructive.

YEah, I'm seeing my dentist tomorrow, ortho the next day.

I'm going to avoid braces, though, as I had them for years previous.  And my retainer still fits; it's just that my crooked molar is in the very back (retainer only covers second molar).

The inflammation stopped and so did the pain, so I'm going to avoid surgeory AND braces.  Unless I can get some OC out of it, haha.

I just got my bottom wisdom teeth and a molar up top taken out yesterday.

The dentist ended up scraping a crater into my jaw half the size of a walnut because of all the rotten shit going on by my wisdom tooth that kept getting food stuck in it.  My previous dentist didn't want to get out my wisdom teeth because they weren't causing problems yet, what a fuckbag, I was covered by insurance back then too...

So now I might have to get the molar next to it removed too and my tongue is going to be numb for months while the nerve heals.  LET THIS BE A LESSON.  Brush your goddam teeth and if you're having ANY problems with your wisdom teeth get them the fuck ripped out.

Wow, what a horror story.  Well, at least you'll be healed eventually.  Perhaps a good thing is that you maybe got some good pain medicine out of it?

Aww, I remember my wisdom teeth pulling...*Fades to a distant time and space*...Doc told put the nitrous mask on me and told me to breath in while he counts back from ten.  I inhaled like I just got pulled out of the bottom of the lake and was out by 8.

I chose to have it done awake, and they gave me valium and nitrous.  They let me bring in an mp3 player and jam to so Pink Floyd too.  It was seriously one of the most awesome drug experiences I've ever had. :awesome:  :vaped:
