How to punish young kids!
    #10443927 -

Ok so i am in a relationship with a women who already has a daughter from a previous bf.  Her daughter is out of control and destroys the house as well as throws huge tantrums throwing herself around, throwing things and hitting us everytime she doesnt get her way or she loses her pascifier which she should be almost off of.
We are trying to break her of staying out of stuff, turning off the tv just cause spongebob isnt on, throwing these tantrums and one method we use is smacking her hand.

I believe she is a little bit young to get spanked but she understands when shes doing something wrong i say your goin to your room and she says no cause i did it a few times and locked her up so she knows what i mean but if i do lock her up shes only good for like 5 minutes sometimes then back at it.  The only problem is she screams and crys for her pascifier or that her diaper is wet or anything she can to get mommy to come let her out and baby her then shes walking all over us again destroying things around the house and acting nuts especially when we dont give her everything she wants.

I told my fiance she needs to be locked in her room to cry herself to sleep then she will realize that will happen every time she hits, throws things and throws her self around pulling her hair and acting nuts.  This kid is nuts for a 2 year old and i think its only cause mom gives her everything she wants and we are talkin bout a 2 year old with her own playstation big tv and more toys than i ever had as a kid and she hardly plays with them rips the playstation cord out and turns off the tv to come yell at us to put on what she wants in the living room.  now we do let her watch tv in the living room most of the day but she needs to learn her room is her room and the living room is the adult room so we can watch something other than spongebob sometimes.

For all parents out reading this did you get locked up in your room as a kid and if you had a kid this hard to control would you do my method and teach her she gets locked in her room everytime she acts wild?  I believe since she is now at learning age she needs to know you dont get everything you want in life just cause you throw a tatrum rippin your hair out, hitting people and throwing things and i do just threatin lockin her up mostly but i think she really needs it sometimes.  Am i doing it right by locking her in her room?  Should she be locked in her room to cry herself to sleep to realize nobody is coming to baby her everytime she does act nuts?

I think the only thing you can do with a child that young is take away what they like until they learn proper behavior.  I hated it when it was done to me, but it worked!

throat chop will do the trick.  quick, fast, and hard.  right on the adam's apple.

no, but seriously.  discipline must be consistent.  no "giving in".  it may take time and it will be hard for mom to bear.  mom may not allow what she thinks to be cruel.  if this is the case i would get out of the relationship or be prepared for a long hard life with a spoiled brat.

exactly.  groundings/losing privileges/toys got my attention way more than a belt.

also, don't be afraid to guilt trip the little shit if it gets too bad, i know it sounds bad but man is it effective.

Well i believe some native cultures used angel trumpets as a last resort disciplinary action on young children...  http://cgi.ebay.com/100-White-Datura-Angels-Trumpet-Seeds-Night-Bloomers_W0QQitemZ220422955241QQihZ012QQcategoryZ3184QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

if nothing else works at least this method is way cheaper than military school

yea well mom doesn't agree with doing whatever means neccesary to keep a 2 year old locked in her room..(wrapping a sheet around the door handle then wrapping the other end to another door handle so she cant open the door) this child has gone from being with her mom and family for 2 years to moving into our own home.. that transition in itself was a lot for her to deal with.. then one day this guy walks into her life and wants to play daddy.. this is something she isn't used of.. especially seeing mom with someone.. sure she's spoiled a bit.. what single mom doesn't spoil their first child? especially when their father isn't around.. but honestly my child is not as bad as he makes her sound.. she does dig, she does throw tantrums, she does scream.. but i don't believe in locking her in her room.. every two year old i have seen has acted this way.. i have been around plenty of kids through out my life.. kids will be kids.. i do believe she does need consistent discipline but i do not agree with how he wants to handle the situation.. i don't care what anyone says but i will NOT listen to my child scream in her room for hours on end and do nothing about it.. and i won't lock her in her room just for whining to watch a cartoon..disagree if you must.. but that is just WRONG..

My honest advise is to get out of that relationship. The way she chooses to raise her kid is going to eventually drive you apart.

Ya i got grounded and spanked at that age and i still love my parents, if someone thinks GROUNDING (i can kinda sorta see the spanking side, but not really) is too much then i can't wait to how you handle the little fucker between the ages of 15-18.

Ya know thats what i am thinking blewmeanie .. we have been arguing about it more and more but she needs to be punished.  The one thing is she wants to put her in the corner when i know she wont stay in a corner in time out she will turn around and run off and act goofy.  she needs to be grounded.  When i was a kid i remember crying myself to sleep in the room.  I hated my parents for it then but now i know why they did it cause i drove them nuts.  As she says in her post she doesnt believe in locking her in her room but most kids would get the point eventually not throw themselves against the door screaming and crying and acting nuts for hours.  most kids would run out of energy and pass out but not this one shes tough!

I dont know what im going to do about the situation but i think i might just leave it alone and spend less time here at the house to let her deal with it.  Thanks for the advice atleast i know im not the only one who would lock her in her room.  I know the kid is driving me nuts but atleast i am breaking her of the habbit of turning off the tv when i am watching it and pushing the buttons on the a/c turning it off. anyways ill figure the situation out thanks for any and all advice.

Thats what ive been saying but my fiance makes every excuse not to go outside with her.  Wants me to go out and play with her.  I dont mind doing it but id love mom to come to.  The tv really isnt good kids need to be active especially with other kids.  It helps them sleep at night easier and longer and helps build them up.  They need excercise!  I tell her that all the time but she doesnt listen and doesnt want to.

Well at least you want to help the situation. It takes a lot of love and patience to build good habits in a child. You have to show them the connection between things so that they can understand certain things.

I haven't raised a kid on my own, but my sister has a 3 year old and I've spent a lot of time with the kid. I hope your fiance can get some energy together to take the kid out and be more active. Good luck man, I wish the best for you all!

I got spanked...honestly that still didn't really help me. But I love both my parents like crazy, I don't harbor any stupid "ZOMG MY PARENTS BEAT ME AS A CHILD" feelings, lol. I probably needed to get my ass beat more.

Bottom line, kids will be kids and do stupid shit constantly no matter what you do. I was more well behaved as a kid as a direct result of getting spanked. I advocate proper administration of spankings. Especially for hot 18+ yr olds.

Indigo your seem like a very nice person, if you haven't noticed the woman you have decided to marry is taking advantage of that. One benefit for her is since she's too lazy to play with own kid or otherwise prioritize keeping her child active- she lets you do it for her.
