Re: My spirit [Re: Jethro Tull]

I don't think that I can respond to the space-time question very well.  I'm not Einstein, nor Bohr, nor Hawkings, nor Feynman.  I simply do not kno0w enough about it to comment.  So you think I should say:  "I'm a perceptual event?"  Who's doing the perceiving?  Aren't I just Zeus throwing lightening bolts in the electrochemical storm which is in my head?

All the advice is well and good.  Especially this stuff about looking "out."  This is such a novel approach, yet well within my grasp.

But how do I convince myself to make time for this stuff?  Most of the time I just live in the present.  Like right now, I'm thinking about this thread.  But tomorrow, while I'm at work, I'll be lucky if I can remember a bit of what I should do for spiritual advancement.  Then I'll get off work, go home and eat dinner, do somethings, think about action, and then do nothing but post on this board and go to sleep.

I've felt stuck in a cage.  How do I hop out of my rigid routine and into new shoes?  The word 'discipline' tickles the back of my throat.  Part of me feels that I should just do something radical.  Fast.  Trip.  Fuck.  Do something exciting and blood pounding and insane.  'Insane' in the way that breaking the mold is insane.

How do I go from idle thought to action?

Right! There is no path from thought to action, in that there is no set of instructions for how to go from A to B like that. If you want to do something enough or your will is strong enough, then you will just do it.

Changing years of habitual thoughts and actions is not by any means an easy feat. If you really want to change these things, then determination, patience, and kindness will be important allies.

In the words of Emerson: "Watch your thoughts; They become words. Watch your words; They become deeds. Watch your deeds; They become habits. Watch your habits; They become character. Character is everything."

Don't try to convince yourself of anything. It's ok to keep on doing exactly what you've been doing. Imagine 10 or 20 years from now, how it will feel when you look back and see that you're doing the same ol' thing. Day in, day out. Month after month. Year after year. The same ol' thing. Really feeling it, over and over... Day in, day out..

OR

You could simply do something else...  anything else at all. And so that you don't find yourself back where you started, it's wise to decide on a destination before you start moving...

Wait....I have to know my destination before I start out on a journey?  Dang-o.

I'd like to be wise.

But what does it mean to be wise?  Isn't the seat of all wisdom compassion?

Do you think that physical toning goes hand-in-hand with spiritual toning?

Is that supposed to be thought provoking or maddening?

So these Temple of Doom type left side spiritual traditions....could they be said to hold virtues?  Honesty, integrity, fellowship, patience, etc?

The LHP is more about developing your own spirituality and defying tradition in favor of individualistic freedom and self-apotheosis.  If you seek humility, virtue, and the eventual subsumption of your singular consciouness into the all-encompassing One, the RHP would probably be a better bet.

remember you can ask many questions for reference purposes... but it is ultimately you who can answer them... based on all data gathered and remembering the fact that you already have all the answers you are looking for

Yes, the LHP is essentially spiritual egoism.

As far as the depressing nature of the loss of your singular consciousness, I agree.  This is why I do not follow the RHP.

Do you then follow the LHP?  Or some middle path?  Or do you just walk where your boots tread? :bigolboot:

And also, what is most LHP practitioners' view on death?
