Hey all, I'm not new around here, but I'm hardly on here (which I want to change, I've just been busy with my music, I havent tripped in ages, but I do want to). Anyway, I was recently reminded of someone whom I've cared about deeply since I first heard about her case back in 2005, you know, the one where she was convicted on no evidence at all.
Well, with what's been going on with her mentally, I can say I've been there. I went into the psychiatric hospital with drug induced psychosis due to mixing scripts (I was severely depressed). Needless to say, I feel a connection to her, as many of you do probably. But my dad is also a victim of cannabis prohibition, he died of a malignant melanoma (skin cancer which turned into everything cancer very, very quickly). Obviously, you all know why he's a victim of prohibition. With THC analogue research, he could've been pumped full of experimental cannabiniods, and maybe he could've made it to my graduation...but that's another story.
With this letter will be a paper that I"m getting hundreds of people to sign at my school and around my community in support of her. I mean everything I say in this letter, and I believe this letter represents what we all feel about her.
By the way, I know my name is in there, so don't remind me. Honestly, I do not care at this point.
Maybe she'll get it, maybe she wont, but anyway, here it is:
""Dearest Schapelle,
I don’t know you, I may never know you, but I wish I could. Let me first start off by introducing myself. My name is , I am a senior from Lower Dauphin High School in Hummelstown Pennsylvania. I’m writing this to you because I have always wanted to do this, but never knew I could. Ever since I saw that “documentary” about you, you’ve had a special place in my heart. I am a victim of cannabis prohibition myself. My father died of brain cancer which could’ve maybe been cured had research not been banned on it in the 70’s. That’s a different story for a different time, so I’ll save it for a later letter, if you choose to reply (which I really hope you do =D).
Where do I begin? I’m a musician, I hope to go to Berklee College of Music in Boston for music education (I want to be a choir director). I don’t think they said what you were planning on doing for a living (which it obviously wasn’t drug smuggling, I know this for a fact) in the documentary, so I’d be interested to hear about your plans for when you’ll be released early! Because I know this will happen. I will see to it personally. And you will have a song named after you on our debut album, “The Stepping Stone Effect”, where one of the themes is the negative impact that cannabis prohibition has on innocent lives.
What I’m about to say may sound braggart, but my band is about to explode onto the music scene. And I am promising you right here Schapelle Corby, that I will donate every cent I personally make that I can’t use on musical equipment to raise awareness about what’s been going on with you, and to help petition the Australian and Indonesian government’s to get their heads out of their asses and let you out of jail. I swear on my father’s grave that I will see that you are released. My band’s first tour will be the Schapelle’s Freedom Tour…or something like that haha. If you have any suggestions, I’m open to it. But all my shares, and probably the shares of my band mates will go to you and your cause, and all the causes that support you. You deserve it, not bars.
The first thing I thought when I saw “Ganja Queen” (sorry if mentioning it makes you upset, I don’t mean to if it offends you) is how beautiful you are Schapelle Corby. You don’t deserve this; beautiful, innocent women do not deserve to be incarcerated like animals. You deserve to be free, you deserve to live a full life without bars in your way.
But please, I’d like to learn a bit more about you, from what I saw you seem like a fun loving person. What were you goals? Correction, what are your goals? Because you cannot lose them, I implore this to you Schapelle. Don’t lose yourself in there, I’m begging you. Be strong, do it for everyone here who knows the truth about you. We know you’re innocent, and you know it too! We love you, and we don’t even know you. I love you Schapelle, you’re a victim of cruel and unusual punishment, and I love you the same way someone from PETA loves an abused puppy or kitten. You are the beat kitten Schapelle, the most adorable and innocent feline I have ever seen! You don’t deserve this, no one does. And please don’t lose your wonderful mind, you’re so bright. I was in the mental hospital before with drug induced psychosis (long story short, depression makes you do stupid things). So I know what that feels like. But Schapelle, please sleep, and listen to what you psychiatrist tells you to do. He knows what he’s doing. And please, maintain yourself. Not saying that you’re not naturally beautiful, but I seen ya Schapelle! Yous a looker haha =D. I’m not just saying that to make you feel better either missy. I mean this from the bottom of my heart. And if you’ve made it this far in my letter, I thank you kindly. It means so much to me, I look at you as a celebrity Schapelle, not a prisoner. You’re a martyr in the fight against cannabis prohibition, a cause I am deeply affiliated with. I recently opened a NORML (Nation Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) chapter at my school, called “Lower Dauphin NORML”. We basically teach kids not to abuse drugs, and on safe practices if they choose to do so. Another time again, but you see, I’m deeply in the same cause as you. I would give anything to be right beside you. You know what? See if they’ll let me spend a month in there with you. I’m serious. If they allow it, I will spend a month inside the Indonesian prison with you. I won’t try and break you out. But I will try to fix you, and help you. You have so much support you can’t even fathom it, but we all love you and care about you, even people you’ve never even met! Attached to this is a photo album of people who support you at my school and around my community. You just sparked inspiration in me, and you will be hearing from me more if you don’t reply haha. So do reply to this, I want to hear back from you! My hands are aching, I just typed this without stopping. But I want to keep this as concise as possible, I know it’s probably hard to focus. But keep healthy Schapelle, do it for everyone who loves you! Lower Dauphin sends its love to you, I personally will see that we do! You’re innocent!""
On the letter I wrote a bunch of side notes in pen, including verses on the back that I wrote to the tune of Fix You by Coldplay, which I will cover as "Schapelle" on my band's debut album, "The Stepping Stone Affect".
Thanks for reading! Hope to hear what you think, I wrote it all as i thought about it, and didn't make any changes. This is from the bottom of my heart...
