Indonesian woman carried fully formed dead fetus for 27 years

Description: INDONESIAN surgeons have delivered a 27-year-old baby from a middle-aged housewife, who had carried the dead body inside her because she was too poor to have it removed, doctors said today.

A team of 15 doctors operated for three hours yesterday to retrieve the 1.6kg petrified baby from the 54-year-old woman, identified as Taminah, at the Sutomo general hospital in the Java island city of Surabaya.

"The woman has carried the dead but fully developed baby inside her for 27 years," doctor Urip Murtejo said.

The woman, who was otherwise healthy, had been referred to the hospital from her home of Bojenegoro, west of Surabaya, after complaining of occasional pains in her stomach, the doctor said.
The baby perished before birth in 1978, after it developed outside the womb.

At the time, the woman could not afford the surgery to extract it, Dr Murtejo said.

The woman was recovering at the hospital and was said to be in good health after the operation.

The body was taken for forensic study.

That is one of the strangest things I've ever heard. I'm amazed she stayed healthy.

someone once told me they heard a news clip about a man whose doctors discovered a large tumor in his abdomen. Once it was removed and they performed the biopsy on it, they discovered it was an undeveloped and dead fetus. Supposedly, his twin never separated.

Second hand account - not sure how true this is.
