Changa
    #9319225 -

I've gotten a few issues of the publication that erowid puts out called Erowid Extracts and there was an article in the last one that caught my eye.

It was talking about a smoking blend called Changa that's apparently gaining some popularity.  All it is is basically extracted DMT (they were saying some acacia sp. was used) mixed with fine pieces of caapi vine, passionflower and maybe a couple other herbs.

I think they said that it was going around at some festival in Portugal, BOOM I believe it was called.  People said that, due to the MAOI plants being incorporated, it lasted considerably longer than just smoking spice by itself and that the experience was a more grounded one, similar to ayahuasca.  People would even smoke it in joints, not necessarily out of a bong.

Now, I know that this isn't too far out of a concept.  But this was the first time I ever heard the word Changa before.  Does anyone have any experience with this or something similar?  I think I'd like to make some for myself.

It's a term that's being used increasingly loosely. Essentially, it refers to any herbal combination of DMT and an MAOI which can be smoked. The actual plants used vary hugely. I think caapi and viridis are the most common, though, since mimosa tastes even worse smoked than eaten.

Hmmm, never even heard it before.  You said caapi and viridis are most common.  Is that to say that it doesn't always incorporate extracted DMT?  I would think that it could be difficult to get any substantial effects from just caapi vine and viridis foliage.

hmm some recipe i remember:

DMT crystals
some extract of an syrian rue
everclear
plain salvia leaf

what you do is let the alcohol absorb the dmt and rue extract, then let it soak into some salvia leaf, dry, then smoke.

This stuff sounds interesting even though its an old thread, it would be more interesting if you link work... im considering just dissolving some good clean D in naph and drying it on plain salvia for easier handling/smoking

Changa is the only way I have been smoking DMT lately. I exclusively use Banisteriopsis caapi leaf and DMT extracted from Mimosa tenuiflora.

I've experimented with different ratios each time and I have now settled on using 10 grams DMT with 15 grams caapi leaf. I prefer to use more leaf so the caapi can contribute to the experience. If doing smaller amounts use 1 gram DMT with 1.5 grams caapi leaf.

Naphtha will work but for some reason I would never use that for changa. I recommend using ethanol (everclear) or isopropyl alcohol. Personally I use absinthe that my buddy distills. It makes the changa smell like anise and for some reason it feels right to me. It's good to have a collective effort with your friends to make some insane smoke lol.

hmmm i was thinkin i don't see any difference, i mean i get fairly clean D straight from naphtha i don't see what would be unruly about using a little bit of evenly coat some leaf with crystalations

Like I said it'll work fine, but for some reason I wouldn't do it especially when freshly distilled alcohol is readily available.

so seeing u use changa regularly, what gives you an urge to smoke it during you typical day? and how does it compare to straight smoked dmt?

Hmmm, I wouldn't say I smoke changa regularly but maybe your definition of regular is different from mine. I've blasted off twice so far this year and maybe 6 times in the last 12 months. I would never just get an urge to partake during a typical day. We plan out these sessions in advance and take these ceremonies very seriously.

Compared to smoking straight from the pizzo there are a few things I like about changa which is why lately I've been only puffing changa. The smoke is smoother and the caapi leaf adds it's own character to the smoke itself. The typical DMT harshness is there but the effect is shared with the smooth leaf and creates an all around better smoke. How long you hold in the DMT is a critical factor in how high you will get and the changa smoke is easier to pull in deep and hold.

As far as the high itself the reviews are mixed in my circle. I feel the spirit of caapi no doubt. It adds it's magic in effect and duration. I have never actually timed a changa high compared to straight freebase but the trip seems to be extended and more lucid. That's just my perceived experience. Other people in the group say it's no different then pure freebase experiences in effect but everybody agrees the experience is superior because of the ease of smoking and holding in makes that space way more easily accessed and available.

Excuse my ignorance, but where do you find caapi leaf... i was thinkin the vine was used, this is really starting to appeal because what i hate about smoking D is well just smoking it.
