Puppy Adoption in Pennsylvania?

Well as you know our family dog died a few weeks ago and the place has been really lonely without a dog around. :frown:  We've decided it's time to adopt another dog and I was hoping some of you from the area might know of any private places besides the SPCA that have a lot of puppies up for adoption.  Nothing against SPCA or anything I'm just trying to find a lot of sources before we choose.  Websites with pictures are preferable, but any help is welcome.  :grin:

Yeah SPCA is great for pet adoption, we got our chihuahua from there for almost nothing and he's really awesome.

find a pit bull and adopt it.

pit bulls are great dogs, and most shelters only keep them for a short time before putting them to sleep. such a bitch.

adopt a pit bull. youll save its life. theyre great dogs, dont buy into the media's bullshit about them. ive never personally seen a mean pit bull.

ive got a 5 month old pit. such a sweet dog. lots of energy. he loves everyone, and loves playing with dogs of all sizes.

You know I was just looking and I saw a TON of pitbull puppies up for adoption.  They outnumbered the other dogs by at LEAST 4:1.  It's nuts.  The girl I get weed from has a white pitbull (pink nose) that's maybe 5 or 6.... she's ADORABLE.  The sweetest fucking dog I've ever met.  I let her lick my face with no fear. :lol:  I was playing with her in the yard the one day though and the dog got a little rough.  They were playful bites (tail was waggin' away) but she left a nice bruise across most of my forearm. 

I'd still love to adopt one.  I think my Dad would be cool with it.  I told him one day I was gonna come home with a puppy (when our dog was still alive) and he had no problem with it, so if I find a pit bull I like I'm totally down to adopt him/her.

funny you mention ur friend with an all white pit. mine is all white too, but has a black nose. well, its almost all black now. still slowly turning black. ill try to get a pic and throw it up here.

OMGz0rz this pit looks JUST like our old dog...it's uncanny!  Apparently our old dog was part pit bull, dalmation, and some kind of terrier, and I'm starting to see the pitbull side she had.  The only difference in this dog is more white on the snout and different ears.  :heart:  I applied to a pitbull rescue place because the SPCA only had 2 older dogs for adoption.  I applied for four different pits.  All were less than a year old and were within 30 miles of our house.  I'm hoping to hear back from them.

The private shelters usually try harder to avoid putting animals down.  Like these places:

Animial Friends (Pittsburgh)
http://www.animal-friends.org

Centre County Paws (State College)
http://www.centrecountypaws.org

At any shelter you're going to pay adoption fees that help keep that shelter up and running.  You will feel better supporting the private shelters by getting your puppy there.  On the other hand when you go to the SPCA, you are often literally saving the animal's life.  I would go with the private shelter because they have the better way and are the future; we should not perpetuate the lowest common denominator.
