I didn't rate, because i didn't think the proper options were given.
Pitbulls are some of the best dogs you can find. I had a pit/malamute mix and my little Missy(short for mischief) was awesome!
As far as dangerous, they do have a locking jaw and are VERY protective. They are also loyal and INCREDIBLY smart.
The caveat is that they have to be trained right and socialized.
One more word of warning: Maybe it was just Missy(being part malamute) but they are STRONG. Its everything you can do to limit their roaming.
She would kill the neighbors chickens so we would put her in the old chicken coupe at the house(chicken wire 8 feet high and over the top too!) she kept getting out and killing chickens and the neighbors threatened to shoot her on site. so we put chain link inside and outside the chicken wire, but she could still get out. *shakes head*
One HELL of a smart (and strong) dog.

I have a three year old boy, a four year old husband, and a two year old pitbull-staffordshire terrier mix. (Staffies are the english version- a bit more stout than a pitbull).
He wouldn't hurt a fly, and we've never had a problem with him. He's not neutered, either. The only thing is that he's full of energy. It's all in how you raise/treat them.
Don't be ignorant.

Lol, true. Not the most applicable expression, I suppose.

I know a pitbull who is quite the cuddler
All depends on how the dog was raised. I think that if you could raise a pitbull from a very young age it could be one of the nicest dogs you'd ever know. But the one I hangout with was adopted from a shelter and is around 5. He must have been bought to be a guard dog and abused because he does at times rage out.

nobody has commented on the issue of neutering. Any opinions as to if this results in positive behavior modification?

It's not the breed, it's the owner who makes the breed so agressive. I've met quite a few Pitties that were just sweet pussycats.

The owner of the dog has taught it some normal tricks like sitting and shaking, but he has also taught it to jump up on people. It weighs 66 pounds or so now. But it gets very little community interaction other than with the two cats it lives with. I think it plays too rough with them but they actually fuck the dog up often. Its nose is covered in scars from big ass cat scratches.
I also think it is retarded because its eyes are too far apart. Like by a lot. But maybe I am not familiar enough with the breed. The pictures you people have posted here have normal looking eyes compared to this animal.

Larrythescaryrex said: I know a guy who bought a pitbull because all of his friends have one and he thinks he is black although he is actually a white doctor's kid who never got a job till he was 21. I use to think pitbulls got a bad rap and that if they were nasty dogs it is because they were trained to be so. HOWEVER, this dog does seem to be inherently violent and I firmly believe it is going to hurt some one. So I want to ask if anyone else has an opinion or experience in the matter. Also he refuses to neuter it. Will that effect temperment in a meaningful way? I believe so.
I always thought pit bulls were redneck dogs. Dogs for dudes with little dicks. I have a friend too that thinks he's black but unlike your friend my friend could pass as black. He's the real deal. Anyway, him and a friend of his decided to breed their pits. I was like ' no way you need those puppies. You're just gonna sell them to asshole punks who wanna fight them and no good can come of it'. So I pull out a hundred dollar bill and take his last female. I was only doing it because I knew the dog's life was going to suck. I took her to the vet, spent hundreds having her wormed and fixed and whatever else she needed. Lo and behold she's the only one who lived. She's also been the best dog I've ever owned. She's smart, loyal and intimidating but harmless. Just like any animal some traits will stay in the animal's blood, like being mean, but when it's like that the trait in question sticks out like a sore thumb in the parents and the pup. I would have never bought a pit but I can't say enough how much I love my puppy. She's the only female in my life that is absolutely till death do us part. Meet Lola.

that looks like a nice dog. I was looking closely at the eyes and they seem like a normal distance apart.

I did. My pit, Duke, isn't neutered. He's a big baby.. still thinks he's a lap dog

I think pits take a more qualified owner than lets say..a Labrador. I think genes and breeding have a part to play, but I think parenting and socializing play just as big of a part. You need to know how to read your dogs body language, and how to communicate clearly with your dog.
My family's pitbull doesn't trust any strangers, and wants to attack most dogs (we rescued her and she wasn't well socialized); but once she gets to know you, she absolutley adores you, and most people fall in love with her for having such a strong personality.
Here she is hogging my bed:
-------------------- Aaa...E I O Uuu...A E I O Uuu..A E I O uh Uuu.. *Cough* *Cough* Ooo...U E I O Aaa...U E I Aaa..A E I O Uuuuu... At first sight, The Perfection of Wisdom is bewildering, full of paradox and apparent irrationality.
