Comcast DVR help?
    #10192240 -

Ok so I'm home theater retarded.  My Comcast DVR box has A/V inputs on the front.  Is there a way for me to hook my DVD player up to that and view it through the DVR box?  I have my 5.1 speakers going from the sub into a small converter into the front AV connects on my TV.  My goal is to get my DVD player to play the 5.1 surround sound.

My TV only has a coax input in the back and AV in the front, but the DVR box is utilizing those connections at the moment.

Any help?

I'll try to help you, but I'll probably sound stupid. Can't you just hook the the DVD video straight to your TV and the DVD audio straight to the speakers? You might be able to that if you just separate the audio wires from the video wire. I can't really visualize it well, and like you I am not not very well versed with this kind of thing.

I suppose that'd work but then I think that would cut out the DVR box.  I guess my main question is, is there a way to select "Video In" from my comcast remote?  That seems to be the only way to accomplish this.

I haven't really taken the time to finagle the wires and such.  Don't sweat it if you can't help, I was just hoping someone extremely proficient in this subject would step in and let me know what's up.

I don't believe that is possible, though I could be wrong. Fuck, I have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm sure if I were at your house I could figure it out. Call geek squad. :bucktoothfattygangsta:
Good luck man. My way made sense to me.

  I'll fuck around with it more later, then I'll consider a mod moving it.  It HAS to work I just need to find the right configuration.  I'm great with computers but cars and home theater boggles the fuck outta my mind.

There is something on the back of your DVD player labeled "optical out".  You need to connect that to whatever is powering the speakers (or a digital coaxial output).

The analog blue and white cables aren't going to carry the 5.1 signal.

I got the same thing. The compsite wire inputs aren't being used for anything yet. You gotta plug it through the back but you can't plug in a regular dvd player to a dvr. You could use a recording dvd player but you're dvr is a recorder.

You have to plug the dvd player to you're tv directly.
