Hey man, can I get your email address? I'll be sure to send you an email when I give a fuck about your opinion of me owning an iPod.
You know why the iPod is so popular? Because it's a good product and it works. Nothing your nonconforming self can say will convince me otherwise.

No, because the other mp3 players have a shitty interface that isn't intuitive. And they last a long time.

My Zen works fine... you can select a playlist, artist, album, genre whatever then you just click on the song and it plays... whats so hard
It costed about 20% cheaper then a nano and has 4x the capacity, FLAC support and simple drag/drop interface (no fail iTunes)

Eh, to each their own. I don't need FLAC support. V0 mp3s do the trick just fine. FLAC takes up way to much room. I gotta have room for my horse and midget porn collection

He's still right.
The reason the ipod is so popular is because it was the first mass storage mp3 device and it kicks ass at it. They can take a beating, simple interface, very dense, scroll wheel etc. Unless you have insane headphones FLAC is pointless.
And why is everyone hating on itunes? I've never had a problem with itunes, I love it.
Seriously just go on apple.ca and buy a refurbished ipod, you save 20+ bucks.

FLAC taking up too much room didn't matter, I got 4x the amount of space for cheaper.
It's really hard to justify more money for a product from Apple that limits users... I don't need iTunes shoved down my throat thanks, just let me drag and drop.
They do it with all their products, limit users so they can sell you something else, I don't want to be a part of that.

...because I don't want to be forced to put that shitty program on my computer.
What I like is plugging an mp3 player in via USB, it shows up under My Computer as a removeable device and just dragging/dropping entire folders or songs, SIMPLE AS.

I prefer not to deal with windows/OSX filing system for music, it's a pain in the ass. I used to prefer just opening songs in winamp out of folders but itunes has grown on me.
But what it comes down to personal preference. Now the OP has a bunch of different opinions.

Yep. Unless you have very high quality headphones the file format won't matter because shitty headphones can't reproduce the lossless sounds that the FLAC file is putting out.
Lets do a test: give me a somewhat popular song you have in FLAC, I'll find you a V0 mp3 version of it. You give me an honest opinion as to whether or not you can tell a difference and explain that difference.

That's not quite the point, I had a very vast FLAC collection BEFORE I ever got an MP3 player.
All my music is in FLAC because it's what sounded the best through my PC speakers (which are considerably higher quality then my player).
Why would I buy an MP3 player that won't accept all my music? It's crazy... there's no reason an iPod shouldn't have FLAC support besides the fact that they're cunts.

I do wish they'd cut it out with the stupid codec restrictions. AVI god dammit.

Did he try resetting it?
I've got the 160gb classic too, and I think it's pretty fucking great.
It'll take me a while to fill it up.

Well - i took the plunge and bought the Ipod classic, cost me $300cdn after taxes, could have saved $40 by ordering online, but i had a good sales person and said "what the hell."
I am just about to download Itunes and start fucking around with it. At first glance, the interface is easier to use and it seems slightly faster than my Creative Zen(s). Scroll wheel FTW <---- all i gotta say.
The battery life is twice that of my Zen and charge time is faster too.
I am very hopefull - ill chime back after i use it for a couple days.
Anyone recommend a case?

ahh man if i could upgrade the hdd in the Zen Vision M i would buy one in a heartbeat. i love those things.
i believe the firmware in the ZVM limits the number of files to 10,000. ive got over 12,000 songs on the ipod now so its a no go.
i bought the ipod when it first came out in 01. dont think ill buy another one.. just doenst work for me anymore.
