having hard time with viewing files

im having a hard time trying to view some files. i was sent some documents that needs to be saved then viewed through my browser. 

every time i click on the saved icon on my desktop i get a message saying:

Active Content Must Be Enabled!
In order to use this form, you must enable active content on your browser.

any ideas?

what browser are you using? FireFox, Google Chrome.... Internet Explored (but why?)

Tools > Options > Content >

Be sure "Enable JavaScript" and "Enable Java" are both selected, then click OK and then Reload.

they are both enabled and im still having the same problem.

common problem is that home computer don't have all the same services running as a server does. So while that exact same file may be perfect on teh interwebs, it might not display properly just running from a computer.

Most likely it's in the coding of the page, which is probably trying to access the root directory of the server you pulled it from, but since most coders won't waste the time or characters typing out the full address when you can just start with "/" as the root (as far as html coding goes) it isn't able to access what it's trying to.

fixed it. i used internet explorer instead. works fine.

just checking, are you sure you saved the files and not just the web page with the links to the files?
