also a friend sent me this:
Decriminalizing Cannabis? Future of Drug Policy in Canada?
Keith Martin, Liberal MP for Esquimalt-Juan de Fuca, wants the government to recommend fines instead of criminal charges for anyone caught by police with fewer than 30 grams of marijuana or two marijuana plants.
Be a responsible citizen and call, write, or e-mail YOUR representative, your Member of Parliament, and tell them that you want sensible drug policy, especially towards the relatively safe, all-natural recreational drug, and medicine, cannabis.
The War on Drugs is a joke that is no longer funny. Prices for illegal drugs are at all-time lows and purity is at an all-time high, more people use more drugs than ever before, and more different kinds are available than ever before. Almost any drug can be easily obtained in any major Canadian city, and ALL of the revenue generated flows through criminal networks (like poppies and Afghanistan terrorists! we are funding the enemy!) that are untaxed and unregulated. THEREFORE OUR CURRENT APPROACH HAS FAILED and we need rational drug policy. Not to even mention that the whole concept of the government telling us how we are allowed to think and feel is totally insane in the first place. This is fairly common knowledge to both Canadians and our government (see Special Senate Report on Illegal Drugs 2001 that recommends legalizing cannabis and shifting drug use to be treated as a health issue and not a criminal one, also the Le Dain Commission in 1969), but few have really had the guts to stand up for common sense. I think that the majority of Canadians would now recognize the 'war on drugs' as a scam based on lies from the very beginning. I'm asking you fellow Canadians to really push for change on this now that we have enough support.
Typical whiners and bullshitters are: -USA (zero credibility when it comes to anything, see secret prisons, torture, their CIA was recently caught red-handed importing tons of coke into the US, highest incarceration rate in the world, somehow they still think they're the land of the free) -Parents who don't realize that regulating something means that their kids will have to be adults to purchase it -Idealists that don't realize that humans have been using drugs to intoxicate themselves for thousands of years, and that it is extremely unlikely that we are going to stop anytime soon. -Pharmaceutical Lobby (Why medicate yourself with natural plants that people have been using for thousands of years that anyone can grow, when we can addict you to synthetic crap (See Oxycotin) and charge you up the ass for it? We really care about your health, seriously.) -Alcohol Industry (you don't want people to have a choice when you realize that alcohol kills more people than all illicit drugs COMBINED. This Bud's For You!) -Tobacco Industry (same deal as the alcohol) -Police, lawyers, bureaucrats, jails ("We'll have to probably cut a few jobs because we won't be busy as hell incarcerating and ruining the lives of thousands of otherwise innocent people. Focusing on actual crime will be such a bummer." gee I really feel bad for you)
Need more hard evidence?
Check out leap.org (That stands for Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, these are cops who have fought the drug war and are against it).
Dan Gardner is excellent at dissecting this war on drugs and exposing its lunacy. Check out some of his columns at www.dangardner.ca like this one: http://www.dangardner.ca/Colfeb2809.html
reason.com has lots of information as well
or just Google "drug war" the evidence is truly overwhelming
Ok this is truly absurd, we gotta do something.
Take 5 minutes and call, write, or e-mail your local MP and demand better. These people work for you! Tell them to stop wasting your tax money busting pot smokers, or better yet legalize it to make billions in taxes. Demand common sense. Drug use should be a health issue, not a criminal one. Pass this text on to as many people as you can. Talk to your family and friends, encourage discussion on this topic.
