Come on lonestar, Detroit and the midwest are where cars have always been built. Obviously other places to, but the seat of the industry is in my backyard. Shit, there are signs on the road that say "your now entering automobile (or automation) alley".

Absolutely, and in a big part because he gave into insane, unmaintainable union contracts.  The same way that massive salaries and bonuses for executives kill companies, so can the unions.  If Obama really wants to get rid of the problem at GM, he needs to attack it from both ends... management and the unions... otherwise he is wasting tax payer money to support a sinking ship for a few more months.  Keeping the unions alive with taxpayer money is not much different than paying bonuses at AIG with taxpayer money.

Edit: when I talk about getting rid of the unions, I am speaking towards the existing labor contracts, not the actual unions.



im from detroit and live close right now and i agree that the unions are fuckin crazy. they are Always wanting more pay and more time off they get 2 hour fuckin breaks with pay and they still want more. they strike so fucking easy... the shit is just overboard and retarded

In Pontiac where I reside we have two GM plants. Only one is open, and only two shifts. Naturally the city is heavily in debt and the state is talking about talking control to "balance the sheets".

My Grandfather also gets his pension and health insurance from GM, so I'm a little attached to the support of the Big 3. I've also been highly critical of them, particularly during the SUV years. Remember I'm only 21 and even I knew, as a teenager, that gas guzzling vehicles weren't the long term money makers that the companies acted like they would be. I mean, we've known that oil production will peak relatively soon and the Big 3's response? Build SUV's!

my dad bought me a Chevy S-10 for my 16th birthday. man i loved that truck!
