Copyrighting songs..

How does one go about the process? I did the mail yourself a copy of your music and don't open the envelope... but I want to make it official. If I remember correctly there is like a $20 fee per song or something like that... whats the deal with this or can you just copyright a whole album for a small price?

Wouldnt that be the shit to work as a copywright guy at the library of congress? I mean Im sure its lots of standard repetative paperwork but you get to listen to new music while you work all day...

Myco I read somewhere that the sealed evelope thing has worked in a court before, but it shouldn't be relied on...

From what Ive heard their are two sides to the issue...

1) Creator - is the person who creates the music and is entitled to a limited amount of things..

2) Copywright owner - is the person who owns the music that has been created and is entitled to just about anything he/she wants..

While you may be the creator of a track you have no legel standing if someone else owns the copywright to it. Mailing it to yourself may prove that you are the creator but whoever files the paperwork on it is the ultimate winner.

Thats why game companys are soo secretive about source code and computer engineering theft is such a HUGE thing.

Its also like the Mike Jackson Paul Mcartney thing... Mike Jackson owns most of the Beatles songs by copywright and even though Mcartney wrote and produced them he has no right to play them publicly or earn money off them...

I'm also curious about this..
I did a google search a while back and got the impression you may need to pay to get the necessary legal papers from a lawyer, not 100% sure about that though.

It just so happens, that I am starting my own label. It will be exciting, I found a faq on how to start a label, so that should help. It also says how important legal aspects are.
