Is there any doubt among us that our days are numbered? That there is something on the horizon as evil and ugly as can be imagined and that we are about to enter a darker time than has yet been experienced in the history of man?

After being desensitized by the internet and movies, nothing shocks me.
Human nature is very much as vile and disgusting as it is beautiful and uplifting.
We're exploring the depths of our human nature to the extremes, and will be even more so in the near future.

I dont think i will die as a result of the end of the world, whatever it might be. But, i do believe it is right around the corner somewhere. Humans will be the cause, unless an asteroid makes it here very soon.

I'm not obsessed with the possibility but it just seems that a lot of strange things are happening and I wanted to know if people around here feel it too.
Bad times ahead, I think. And it's easy to say that reality is subjective while your bubble remains unpierced.
I mean I don't know you dee, and I don't know what kind of things you have had to have dealt with in your own personal experience. I'm assuming yours has been a pretty sunny life thus far, and that helps me to understand your disposition.
We'll see what happens I guess.

You can feel that we're approaching the cusp of a catastrophe, and that beyond that cusp we are unrecognizable to ourselves. The wave of novelty that has rolled unbroken since the birth of the universe has now focussed and coalesced itself in our species. And if it seems unlikely to you that the world is about to transform itself, then think of it this way: think of a pond, and think of how if the surface of the pond begins to boil - that's the signal that some enormous protean form is about to break the surface of the pond and reveal itself. Human history IS the boiling of the pond surface of ordinary biology. We are flesh which has been caught in the grip of some kind of an attractor that lies ahead of us in time, and that is sculpting us to its ends; speaking to us through psychedelics, through visions, through culture, and technology, consciousness. I'm an optimist, so I don't believe things will get worse.
I do however feel that the next 50 yrs will be rocky at best..
Humankind is on the verge of some major scientific breakthroughs in the next 100-200yrs.. Ones that will drastically change the way humans live... I'm talking the lengthening of a human life, it could be possible to live hundreds even thousands of years in the not to distant future. Nano-technology which will allow the biggest revelution in history, we will be able to create endless supplies of food, water, and anything our hearts desire..
Space travel will become common place with fusion becoming a reality.. Colonization of the moon and Mars will begin as humans run out of room on earth and move out to the stars. Eventually greed, wealth will be a part of history once all humans have access to unlimited needs such as food, clothing, transportation... Teleportation will become a reality, which I'm sure would have scary consequences via military applications..
I think that the near future bores me because I truly feel we humans need a real awakening from religion and discrimination. Its going to be a long road of change for the next few hundred years, but I feel strongly that Science will be our salvation.
I think the future is bright, but the next 50 yrs are worrysome I think.

After listening to many of Dr. McKenna's tapes I have lost all fear of this 2012 event. I'll be in my 30's...most likely married with kids...let's see what happens...

I think we might be in a really cool point of evolution.
With the advent of technology, we?re able to evolve new skills without having to reproduce... and now we?re just barely learning to alter our own DNA.
Think of the red line as evolution moving along a timeline.
Could be a few hundred or even thousand years before things really get exciting, but who knows.
As for things that are coming up now, I think people are being a little over the top. The events of the next few years will likely be no larger than the world wars.

I like that curve Phluck.
And Thor's optimistic predictions were nice too.
Some major changes must take place of course.. Although I can picture things in a very similar way, just with the elimination of many negative aspects, a Star Trek sort of view of earth and the human species...
I feel crazy when thinking about the race.
So many individuals.
So many people with twisted crazy views of reality and society raised by other morons. I am ashamed of much of the race but hope the intelligent and genuine will outlast the moron masses who breed like rabbits on top of everything...
If only one could make the whole world peak all at once and realize it's absurdity.
Though can you reallyu blame all these morons?

I think overall things are going to stay the same for a long time, we'll go about things better and faster, but the overall happiness level for humans will likely stay the same, as it always has.
